Hello. So I have this capture card here, its true identity is a bit of a mystery but it is a Compro Technology VideoMate TV PVR FM "1MP03PV6KE1" and according to the seller it is also known as an "M200" which is true but it isn't written anywhere on the card. Apparently "ComproUSA" is another name for the company, and it is a Taiwanese company which only sells/sold their capture cards in Russia? Because if you look up my capture card you will find pretty much only Russian people talking about it? And I did get mine from Russia. Eh, not sure what's going on here but anyway...

I installed the card in my computer, Windows detected it as a "VideoMate TV SAA7130 Capture Device", and I then installed the latest drivers and programs for it (for Windows 7, which I'm using) from the company's website. I launched the capture program for it called ComproDTV 4, I connected something to its composite input and cool I could see the composite source on my screen. I pressed record and uh oh, "Application error". "Error Code = 0x10040001" and it doesn't record anything. Well that's bad. It doesn't matter if I try recording from S-Video or RF either. I did find one thing that's interesting. If in the settings I select "Use Custom Encoder" and then "Windows Media Format" for video (the only choice you have) and audio then pressing record doesn't make an error message appears but it makes the capture screen go dark and even though it appears to be recording at least something, when you stop the recording all it does is create a 0 byte WMV file.

I really don't know what's going on here, is it a software problem, hardware problem, both? What I do know is that the more I look at it the more this card appears to be a real antique, and in this case antique does not mean "old enough to be cool and interesting" but just old and kinda (really) crappy :D I wouldn't like to say it's shady, but it really doesn't look that great and come on there's even a typo on the card. Written in big, white letters on black. OPITION instead of OPTION!

see if it will work with DScaler, if so you can usually tweak the signal to get a better picture anyway
