Hello VCF, I got another thread for you.

Yesterday, I picked up an IBM Thinkpad 600 (not e, not x) Pentium 2 laptop at a thrift store and I reformatted the system under windows 98, and here is where the problems start. The main issue is the video resolution, as it is stuck at 640 x 480, despite the fact that I installed the driver that was standard for the laptop and I installed a monitor profile from IBM, as the screen is 1024 x 768, yet changing it to that resolution and restarting will only bring up an error message stating there is an issue with the display settings. The screen will automatically reset to 16 colors and 640 x 480 resolution no matter what I do.

Any ideas?

My initial thought is that you installed the wrong driver. I don't recall installing a driver at all the last time I put Win98 on a 600e.

It's been a while since I did 600e work; is there a BIOS option for how much memory is dedicated to video? If so, increase it -- it might be too small to support 1024x768 24-bit color. Conversely, try setting 1024x768 256 colors, then 15-bit or 16-bit color, to see if those work.

I have too Thinkpad 600 (not E or X) and it is equipped with Pentium I 133MHZ and "not yet TFT" screen with resolution 1024x768. Other Thinkpad of mine is 600E with 200+MHz Pentium II and TFT 1024x768 screen. I am using the first 600 with Windows 98 with no problems at correct resolution. If you still have trouble I might dig out mine and look what driver I have.

Turns out I had the wrong driver installed, now the system works at full resolution, thanks for the assistance.
