"PCB" Voice Synthesizer

This prototype is not the same as the Radio Shack Voice Synthesizer, catalog number 26-1180. This looks like a device someone built for their own experiments.

The Radio Shack device used the Votrax SC-01A speech synthesis chip, but this prototype has the incompatible General Instruments SP0256-AL2 chip instead.

Thanks for the information.
The Datasheet of this component is printed by Radio shack and ARCHER. This component was distributed by Radio Shack.
So the 26-1180 uses the same component of "ALPHA product VS100" the Votrax SC-01A

The combination of these GI speech chips is quite nice, the larger chip is a complete 'pre-processor' accepting serial or parallel data input. You can send it 'plain ASCII' data and it will convert that to the format the SP0256 uses.

Some months ago I build a speech synthesizer like that for use with a Kaypro 4 (and other computers), connected to the serial port.
My speech chips were unused Tandy packages but since the plastic became brittle I decided to put them onto a board..

Very beautiful
I'll try this card on a TRS-80, and I'll draw it a "PCB". Indeed it has serial and parallel connections with a memory of 1K buffer
