1541 for the C64? Any differences, versions, other things I should look for?

I'll second the motion for the 1541 II drive, save for a big fat * next to it. When I got my 1541 II drive, I had to rebuild the power supply because it was dead. I don't know anyone who makes aftermarket replacements for the power supply. But then again, I don't know of anyone who makes...

FS: Breakthru 286 accelerator card - includes all manuals and software

I have one of these cards that was pre installed in a 5150 that someone gave me. Would it be of any help if I backed up specific breakthru 286 files on my hard drive?

    Oldest games you know

I too was born in the (early) 90s. The oldest game I can recall from a very young age is Sokoban, on the Ibm pc with CGA graphics. I think it was one of the very first pc games I ever played, alongside Jeopardy for Ibm pc or Wheel of Fortune for Ibm pc.

Need some advice from the vintage computer community at large....

Yeah like all the stuff that yellowed on the side facing a nearby window, but not the opposite side. Or all the stuff that yellowed except where something shadowed it, like the keys on a keyboard or the monitor sitting on a case (like my 86b). Or of course the ones that are yellowed on the...

So I pulled the HP 86b apart to clean the plastics under some warm running water, and I discovered several hand written date codes and other markings inside. If I were to guess, it's either from when the computer was manufactured, or when it was serviced sometime in it's life. I don't want to...

Or here's an even crazier idea. I wonder if car wax with UV protection would help? It's not "permanent" so to say, so maybe someone would try it? It might be good for a display computer. Not sure how well it would work for a computer being actively used. Worst case scenario, I suppose it would...

I went back to the same thrift store today, and managed to score a Hewlett Packard 97 calculator. Complete with case, power adapter, program strips, and documentation. I wouldn't be surprised if it came from the same fella who donated the HP 86b. I paid 4 dollars.

Curious Marc was doing videos on the HP85, which is a different computer. Similar family, but different computer. Mine sold for 2 dollars at the local thrift store. I found it laying on the ground outside in one of them rubbermaid plastic tubs.

I found a Hewlett Packard 86b, complete with matching 12 inch monitor, Polaroid "contrast enhancement filter", rom tray, ram expansion card, and another card I think is used for connecting peripherals. There's a couple of the 86 version on ebay, but only one 86b. From what little information...

Yeah I find that it really depends on the item in question whether it will re-yellow or not. I suspect it has to do with how yellow it was in the first place. For example, I have retrobrighted a C64 that wasn't terrible to begin with. It's fine, no new signs of yellowing. Then there was a SNES...

Do you suppose it detracts anything from the value or collectibility of the machine? I've retrobrighted machines I keep for myself, so I am also very experienced with it.
