So I had another go with my dos6.22 720k diskette. It booted and it would format the CF card, it would also sys c: and fdisk /mbr
Interestingly I though I'd use a 256k industrial card that I bought. This wouldn't boot (need to upgrade XUB? - on it!).
It worked fine on a 1GB card I also had...
Hi all. My dell xps-15 finally died, refused to boot properly and after heroic efforts including trying to reflow any cracked/broken solder joints on the graphics card (see Youtube) I couldn't get it to start up. It was quite funny to see my non-working xps-15 in bits next to a working IBM 5150...
I did and there's the gotcha. You can copy to c and from c, but as soon as you remove the diskette then dos can't see it [the drive] anymore.
Yes I have dos 5 and many spare cf cards. This was because I had some real Del dos 5 install discs- 720k, miracle
I think that there is a major point missing somewhere. Probably in my head.
I cannot create a 720k bootable dos6.x diskette. If I could I can install to CF card. I have done this with Dos3.3 and even Dos5, but no 720k win6,x images, ISOs or anything
I have a usb floppy, but it can't be...
Well I do have an old laptop, just a hd, no cd or drives (A little Samsung N110) actually. Found the correct ac power and it booted. So attached the external TEAC drive and have managed to load 6.22 on to the hard disk.
So booted from hard disk, put a 720k disk (with hole covered) and tried to...
Has anyone actually got a Dos 6.x working with a 5150 using a CF card?
If so please share how you accomplished it, because as someone implied earlier in the thread, I seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time going round in circles ;)
I'm looking at 86Box, but what would be the...
I navigate to the CF card from the hard disk select but PCem won't let me select it. It wants an image. Can PCem actually read an actual drive?
Now when you say the image I burnt to the CF card, my understanding is that Win32diskimager (or dd) is writing the PCem hard disk image to the CF card...
So first I found that dd is under git for windows usr/bin, but couldn't figure out how to use it. Then found an article on dd for windows https://aeroquartet.com/treasured/dd for windows.en.html but that didn't work. Then saw your link. That wrote to the CF card nicely, but it won't boot on the...
Well, I did have to get into the BIOS (ctrl-alt-exit whilst booting and set up a hard disk to match (type 40 I think).
Anyway fdisk'd and formatted. Note it boots into some dos menu app - like commander? or xtree,, so removed this and the mouse from autoexec.bat and now I can boot into C...
