A tip for those designing new hardware for vintage machines...

I wouldn't say MFM drives in general almost never work, depends on the model. I've got multiple seagate st225 drives that work without issue. And a pile of broken tandon tm 262 drives. Too bad my nostalgia is for a computer that used a tandon, I'm down to one working tandon drive, and it...

Any ideas how to troubleshoot/fix the non-working one I have?

Thanks for the suggestion, ordered one. But might be nice to get this one working again at some point to have a spare.

It's like the one in the 2nd link to the thread. I've tried pulling it apart and re-seating it. No luck.

Looking at the card, it says Blue Lava Systems XT-CF Bootable 8-bit CF Interface

A tip for those designing new hardware for vintage machines...

I"m not hot swapping anything. I power down the machine anytime I'm removing or changing CF cards. My CF card still contains the same data as always when I test it on a usb adapter to check if my data is still there, but the xtide card will not see it anymore. Nor will it see other cards...

When booting, it tries to find a master and slave device, but finds none present, and then tries to fail over to booting to the A: drive, which it will do if I have a diskette in the A: drive.

If "I" was doing something to wear it out, I wouldn't be pissed about the card breaking down. I didn't choose anything, I'm just pissed at throwing money away on something that brokedown way too soon or easily. The card has been sitting in the same computer for a few years now. Suddenly when...

A tip for those designing new hardware for vintage machines...

I've struggled to find much in the way of options or choices when it comes to these cards, a few years ago I looked for an XTIDE card, and bought what was available at the moment. I'm wishing I did a bit more research, but I don't recall finding a whole lot in the way of options or choices, or...

14 years and still going is excellent, good for you. Not sure how to put one together though. Would love to get my hands on something that would last more than 2 years, and I am willing to pay. As much as I like fighting with MFM drives that are determined to fail, it's good to have an easy...

A tip for those designing new hardware for vintage machines...

If you're going to design new hardware to use in 30+ year old machines, maybe build it to last a bit longer than 2 years. I know I'd be extremely embarrassed if I designed, built, and sold a product, only to have it die in 2 years while a 30+ year old machine it was made for continues to work...

Anyone having any luck with the clock on the ComputerLand BC88?

That did the trick, thank you so much, it's working great. It's a bummer about the y2k bug, but updating the autoexec.bat file once a year is better than setting the date and time every time I turn it on.

Anyone having any luck with the clock on the ComputerLand BC88?

My pursuits to get these machines up and running as they should, with full use of their clock cards, continues to be a challenge. At this point I have 4 of these machines, the latest one I acquired being a rusty heap, with a dead power supply, which I bought to investigate the contents of the...

2 more ComputerLand BC88s - when it rains it pours

If one is having display issues, I've found dipswitch 3 on the PC card to have something to do with display settings. It was set in the up position on the one that came with a CGA card, and set in the down position on the other 2. I found that both of these machines would work with my EGA card...

2 more ComputerLand BC88s - when it rains it pours

It turns out dip switch 6 only disables the ability to change the speed on the computer, it doesn't set it to high speed.
