The "Ahl Benchmark" of BASIC performance

Post #46 specifically mentions an attempt to speed up a computer with a faster ROM. Pointing out that it doesn't work.

The "Ahl Benchmark" of BASIC performance

Just debunking a popular myth. Off handed assertions of fallacies are a pet peeve. As a small step in the process, I guess it would be warranted. I've been a Model 100, 102 and 200 owner for decades. Speed was never a consideration for me. As for the various assertions about barious BASIC...

The "Ahl Benchmark" of BASIC performance

Replacing a ROM with a faster rated one will not increase performance in any signifigant way. The hardware was constructed to expect the data from the ROM at 600ns. Putting a 250ns ROM in there will only make the ROM have the data sooner. I hear comments like this a lot. Replacing 150ns RAM...

    Learning to dissasemble z80

I'm looking at some existing z80 code. Trying to take it apart and learn more about what it is doing. How do you figure out the starting offset? This is a file that has been analyzed by other but I'm trying to learn.

What is this external Tandy Floppy drive and whats it work with?

Wire up an adapter. The drive is probably one of 2 or 3 common drives. An ohm meter and a couple of connectors and you can at least use the drive.

What is this external Tandy Floppy drive and whats it work with?

Well, you can open the drive case and sus out the 12v and 5v. It won't be that hard. Then remove it from the interface and wire up an adapter. Easy peasy. I've done it with the old 1000ex floppy drives that were powered over the cable.

    Tandy 1000 SL

I would be interested in buying one of the SL machines with the network ROM. I live in New Jersey.

    Tandy 1000 SL

Be careful with absolutes. Some of the 1000SL machines were sold to stores with a network boot option. They were essentially terminals for connecting to the POS systems. https://forum.vcfed.org/index.php?threads/tandy-1000-ws.59535/

    TRS-80 Model 4 C Programming System _ RS Catalog# 26‑2230

I have several hundred model 4 programs. I don't see disk images in my collection. My cat turned off remote access so I'll have to check when I get home.

The 10MB one was my first hard drive for my Tandy 1000A. I had 2 floppies so I got an external hard drive. Sorry I missed VCF this year.

ST-412 MFM HDD / CARD possible IRQ 5 Issue with 80286 mainboard

Thanks for clearing this up. I know I had problems with 16 bit MFM controllers and IDE contollers being installed at the same time but wasn't 100% sure how the 8 bit controller would work in the 16 bit environment. I know that it has it's own BIOS and needed the drives set to none
