A tip for those designing new hardware for vintage machines...

I have such a large inventory of controllers, cables and disks I'd rather use them up before entropy takes them, then I'll probably get an XT-IDE. Though I guess there's those odd times I've spent a few hours trying to move a file I've muttered it sure would be handy to have one... :p

Apparently he was supposed to have DIY kits available at the VCF East workshop but logistical problems got in the way and the few kits he did bring quickly sold out. I've still yet to buy an XT-IDE from any vendor, for the record. :/

California WTB: Sigma Designs DoubleUp NuBus Card

There used to be a few of those on ebay a few times a year but I think the supply of them all dried up. Neat idea while drive space was still expensive, I guess. Pretty much the Stacker compression card, but for the Mac.

Disassembling a Sony Vaio PCG-505 battery?

Usually with battery packs I use either a hammer and a block of wood or a lead shot dead-blow along the seam to break the glue/weld, but you have to be careful as you can damage or dislodge components in the battery (done that) or dent the old cells, risking a fire. (been there too....)...

Where are the 5110, 5120 and 5130 posts?

That and they have been quite uncommon. They were expensive and didn't sell well. To this day, most of the image results for them bounce back to Geekhack/Deskthority, which also says things about where they all went.

    Four-Phase Systems IV/90

If it's not on Bitsavers, it's all I'm aware of that exists unfortunately. I've been on a bit of a crusade for the last year or so trying to gather up as much as I can find and get it published online so if you know anyone with...well anything really that pertains to Four-Phase there's a bunch...

    Panasonic HHC

Someone at the VCF Consignment was selling three units in varying condition and I drew the short straw. :( They all seem like they were from a portable programming system for GE radios and mobile telephones ( https://www.hallelectronics.com/getech/prog4.htm ) so they all came with the computer...

What on earth are you even doing to wear out an XT-IDE??? Did you wake up this morning and choose violence???

    HP 98041A Disc Interface

BuMP. Ed's long since closed and gone. He did have at least one of the boards I needed but he ended up ghosting both my emails and my phonecalls. It's been five years. Anything new? anyone????

New England A heaping bunch of PCMCIA Wireless Network cards $12.00 + Shipping

Double-check that because this is really important. Back when an AirPort card was expensive it was an easy hack to reflash a WaveLAN card as an AirPort card and use that in a Powerbook but once flashed you cannot flash them back to a normal card and I'm already drowning in AirPort cards.

New England A heaping bunch of PCMCIA Wireless Network cards $12.00 + Shipping

You able to get me a rough shipping estimate to my neck of the woods I'll bite. I remember when a WaveLAN card with the gold firmware flashed to it was an easy $25 but now you have to supply a separate 802.11b WAP anywhere you go because for obvious security reasons most people leave it off by...

    Four-Phase Systems IV/90

I do not have photos of the missing I/O interface boards. The best thing that has been sourced was board schematics and layout diagrams (they are on Bitsavers), which add a bit more gloom because they are dominated by more Four-Phase ASIC's to which have no documentation. I have...

Anyone who has built up a microchannel system with sound, compact flash, ethernet, etc., was it worth it?

I bought it in 2009 with two binders of technical docs for $150 + shipping. Right at the end of when this stuff was still obscure junk. At the time I had it setup with AutoCAD (I have the AME kit which was the full 3D modelling package but I have never gotten past the lack of a product...
