    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Thanks for the links. The final question is how do I get the setup file onto the laptop. Since the FDD is playing tricks on me, I would have to take the HDD out and into a laptop with an IDE interface and a working floppy...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

On the hard drive I could not find the SETUP1.EXE or any toshiba utils, and the floppy doesn't work unfortunately, so I'm stuck at the moment I guess.

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

If I hold F1 during boot it doesn't do anything, passes the memory test and boots straight from the hard drive. FN-ESC indeed brings out a popup menu, but except for some basic screen, font, etc settings, nothing interesting there. Another question is the RAM and HARD-RAM - during boot the first...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Thanks for sharing your experience! Nice try on the batteries. This is indeed infuriating, I've spent the whole last weekend trying to get this floppy to work. Tried a couple of different belts (some more some less stretchy and different lengths but no luck). I think the head driving/positioning...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Hi, Finally, I've managed to now permanently repair my T1000LE. The final problem was a hair-thin trace eaten away by the cap juice (I've marked the place on one of your photos). In the meantime I also bought on eBay another T1000LE (visually almost perfect condition) and re-capping just did...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Not a direct swap, but all you need to do is to cut out the old battery and solder the wires to the new one - simple.

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

I don't think it will accept any other HDD's. It is not "locked" really, rather its CHS values are hard coded into the BIOS ROM. I believe if you take the BIOS ROM chip into and EPROM reader/programmer you can find where the CHS values sit and program your own to match any IDE HDD you wish...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Hey Tom, As for the CMOS battery, I have discovered that the original T1000LE had two 1.2V NiCd button cells (2.4V in total) made by Yuasa. These I believe are quite difficult to get these days, so I went to replace it by a 2.4V NiMH rechargable unit. Since I live in Poland I bought the battery...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Ah, do not forget you also have a few more electrolytic caps on the separate power inverter / LED board sitting under the LCD panel. On mine these looked clean and a couple even measured about the right capacitance, slightly high(ish) ESR, but... for me these found their new home in the bin. I'd...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Q502 - That's a P channel MOSFET. May be difficult to find a replacement. I bet these are not manufactured for a long time, so best to download its datasheet, note the key parameters and start looking for a replacement. I think I've already seen somewhere someone reporting these (Q502) blow up...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

yes, not only these, but change the electrolytic ones ALL over the mainboard - no exception. Even if they look good and /or measure the right capacitance do not get tempted to leave them on. They pose a huge risk - bin it. There's no way even the best of this world electrolytic cap can survive...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

By the way, I'm also suspecting the oscillator ticking the RTC chip, or the chip itself may be faulty. Need to run more tests, but don't have much time at the moment...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

Yeah, I think so, for clarity I'm attaching my datasheet. I'm sure that mine was dead - if you take a good one and set your multimeter to the diode tester, and check between pins 1-2 (input) it should read about 0.6V, mine was showing an infinity, and when set on resistance it was in mega ohm...

    Toshiba T1000LE not booting up

I've found a shot SMD voltage regulator. Description below, including the location on the flip side of the mainboard. Make sure yours has the RD imprint on top. Ordered here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302287644886 what matters is the upper RD symbol, the bottom one is LOT number (my was R5, but...
