DECUS Tape with DECUS C and other C compilers

Let me know if you want the rest of the documentation in .txt form (cc.txt is in my reply above). None of the converters I found (after converting from RUNOFF to TeX) could do a decent job. The PDF I posted was the best I could get, but the online TeX to PDF converter didn't understand the...

    PDP-8/S

Never trust any of the shippers to do an acceptable job of packing. Either have the seller do it (if they're capable / willing) or ask for assistance from someone in groups like this. For example, if I had done it each PCB would be in its own antistatic bag, with an appropriately-sized...

    Cleaning of dirty wire-wrap backplane

You could always use deionized water for the rinse. I have a pretty hefty setup in my garage for washing my car - all but the last rinse use regular water and then I used deionized water for the final rinse so it drys on its own without spots. Anybody in the NYC area can DM me and make an...

DECUS Tape with DECUS C and other C compilers

Edited: While waiting for a multi-hour disk rebuild... A rather grueling process to end up as a PDF loses a lot of line formatting. I'm trying to find a better converter, so consider this PDF provisional. I'm also attaching the file in vanilla .txt formatting:

    DEC Color Codes

Let me re-phrase myself - I know someone who communicates with that person occasionally (and gets responses). I believe that neither wants to be identified here or elsewhere.

DECUS Tape with DECUS C and other C compilers

I think various SIG tapes had "Bonner Labs RUNOFF" which was an improved version of the DEC one. But VMS still has runoff available, so you could just spin up a simulator session. Or email me the .rno files and I'll process them.

    DEC Color Codes

VSI has the rights to build / modify / update / etc. VMS on VAX, Alpha, Itanium and x86-64. They have stated they will never do a VAX build, but according to their 'latest' (2022?) support roadmap, they will gladly sell you 'prior version support without sustaining engineering' (AKA "Give us...

    DEC Color Codes

[Pardon the thread necrophilia.] Go to https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/search/search-information and enter "digital equipment" (without the quotes). Note the large number of Dead / Dead - abandoned / Dead - cancelled in the results. In perusing several pages, I was unable to find a single relevant...

DECUS Tape with DECUS C and other C compilers

Could be DECUS C, could be Whitesmith's C hosted elsewhere and then burned into the EPROMs, etc.

Microvax 3100-40 only boots VMS 5.5 and 7.2 installation CD but not Ultrix 4.5 or NetBSD 10 for VAX

Is this an official VAX distribution ISO from the NetBSD site (or one of its mirrors)? The instructions at https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-10.1/vax/INSTALL.html don't actually mention how to boot from a CD (for example, if there are R5 parameters needed on the boot command). The...

    11/03 in a BA23

I have no idea where you're going with this. You were the one who first said 11/23 (up in reply #3). You can do lots of combinations of hardware that DEC never supported and have it work. Or fail spectacularly. Suggesting to the OP that he come up with a set of KDF11-B3 EPROMs, split them up...

    VAX 4000-705A Questions

You got a hell of a steal. Please don't break the computer when you get it. You're going to need 2 DSSI terminators, a new TOD battery, a good internal cleaning and a very careful start of that power supply.

    11/03 in a BA23

The OP said "a quad 11/03 board". So the answer is no, not with those parts. A quad 11/23 board, yes, although a BDV11 is not needed as the quad 11/23 contains boot/diagnostic EPROMs and the BA23 is already terminated.

    11/73

See my answer to another post where I described how DEC had no consistent plan for marketing J11 CPUs and the boards / systems they went into. In general, dual-width 11/73 boards were for OEM applications while quad-width boards were for DEC systems.

    RA82 revival

No Ready front panel lamp? Check for burned out bulbs. Note DEC used several flange-base bulbs which do not interchange - check the part number. The RA81 has a DB-25 connector for a serial console. I assume the RA82 does as well. Ir runs at some slow baud rate, IIRC (2400 or lower). A couple...
