    OS/2 vs. early Windows

My notes say that SLS was announced in August 1992. While was X11 likely was included, I'm not sure how useful it was at that point, I have not used it. Also, I did see that the network stack and drivers were in a bit of a flux. Also, SLS was considered buggy. So as a 32-bit OS in 1992, it was...

    Recommendations for Drive Docks

I got one from star tech a long time ago, USB adapter, and it has worked flawlessly except on one, 35 year old western digital IDE drive. I found another dock at a yard sale, probably no name USB from amazon for $2. Eventually tried it and it didn't work.

    Ebay just killed themselves

I'm aware of what these javascript splash screens are doing. They are trying to stop AI bot scrapers that act much like a DDOS. They are getting notoriously aggressively bad, so now everyone are taking measures against them.

Was IBM planning a second CGA card?

I think all they are saying, is that the language allows user customizable palette colors, even though the planned color card will not support doing that.

Why did IBM create CGA - What user was there target?

Indeed. Those early specs and buzz around IBM, it's pretty clear that the PC was meant to be a way for them to enter the home computer market. The people coming up with these concept drawings were really thinking about ways to reduce the cost of the machine to make it really sell. It does seem...

Why did IBM create CGA - What user was there target?

IBM built CGA because they wanted to compete for the home computer market where others also had color graphics.

Help with timeline regarding USB mass storage support and drivers?

Ok, well, the little I remember about doing anything in Win98 for this, it wasn't really supported in 98, except for maybe a few vendors that supplied the drivers that kind of did it. I doubt I have any examples remaining of drives from that era. From Microsoft, WinMe really was what they wanted...

Help with timeline regarding USB mass storage support and drivers?

I don't remember doing much with USB before 2000, other than I do remember being bit by drivers in 95/98/NT. I do remember using mice and keyboards, which kind of did the job, but also not really necessary at the time. So I pretty much consider these early pre-2000 USB 1 and OS not really that...

Help with timeline regarding USB mass storage support and drivers?

Zip drives were at their peak popularity, already available in scsi and ide options. They cost some too, but you could get alot of storage and fairly fast for what it did. And not forget the CD-R and RW. That was also supported by WinMe, and other ways. That was dirt cheap. Flash was...

Help with timeline regarding USB mass storage support and drivers?

I remember interest in using USB for storage didn't really appear until around mid-2000. It's almost as if everyone waited until Microsoft made a move to support it. But of course USB 1 was pretty slow to not really be any improvement for storage over all the existing options. So it could be...

    Tough times for Technology/Computer Museums

For a computer? I have never seen one in person. I am not exactly that young, but I do remember seeing the old, for the time, TV shows and movies in the late 80s that did depict these computers, and that is what I generally associated what a computer was when I was very young, which probably...

    Serial Board identification

The left card has the instructions printed next to the jumpers. You could probably solve either card how they are set up by running a diagnostic program such as msd or checkit, or even I suppose IBM diagnostics. There are alot of ways to check.

    M-Tech R407W2 Motherboard

I believe you are suggesting you have something like the R407E, similar to Dusko's picture at this link: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/m-tech-mti-ris-r407e-vesa-486 What model is marked in the silkscreen at corner? I'm hoping still there is something that distinguishes from the original...

Help Setting Up an ISA Modem Card in DOS 6.22/Windows for Workgroups 3.11

Looks like a 1200 baud modem. The switch settings are written on the top and side. SW1 isn't mentioned, but likely unimportant (maybe speaker?). You can probably follow the traces, if you look closely. I can't tell in the image.
