    Degreasing Mid-Century Cash Registers

I have a similar mechanical cash register that's all gummed up. What I have found through research is that you don't need to use brake cleaner, which is bad for plastic that might be in the system. You can use transmission fluid to de-gum it. Open it up, and set it in an area, or a shallow tray...

Mattel Aquarius with a weird issue

BASIC is probably contained in a mask ROM. A ROM that shouldn't have its content altered on its own in any way, and is permanently mapped to a specific address range in the CPU's addressable space. I'm not familiar with the memory map of an Aquarius, but there is the possibility that game...

    Sharp Zaurus

I have both the SL-5500 (the early-release developer's version) and the SL-5600 (the commercial version). It's been a while since I ever used them. I should dig them out and see if they still work.

How do I format a floppy in Basic 2.0?

Looks like you forgot a comma: OPEN 1,8,15,"N0:NAME,ID";CLOSE1 The comma after the 15 needs to be there as the text in the quotes is considered another parameter for the OPEN command.

Help on identifying an 8-bit ISA card (CPT Corporation)

It was the early 1990s the last time I saw cards like that. It looks like a CPU card for a CPT-9000 word processing system. It was part of a hybrid system that went in a pseudo IBM clone computer that gave the system a "personality" to be able to operate as a CPT Word Processing system. It used...

Behold: The Greasebox! (self-contained Greaseweazle drive enclosure)

I used an old IBM PS/2 CD-ROM enclosure to do mine a while back. I used an Epson SD-880, too. Great compact dual drive for it.

TypeStore Word Processors (and IBM Wheelwriters)

Ah... so it might be possible to use a terminal device to encourage the TypeStore to do something. Even if it didn't, your ww_decode_keys function is a good starting place for me to work from. Thank you for the information! I might have to bring these to the next VCF-MA repair workshop to work...

TypeStore Word Processors (and IBM Wheelwriters)

This TypeStore does not have a keyboard, yet it is supposed to connect to the Wheelwriter as an enhanced word processing system supposedly controlled from the Wheelwriter. The connection is a DB9. So that means it can't be a parallel port in a conventional way. Since TypeStore documentation is...

TypeStore Word Processors (and IBM Wheelwriters)

I recently acquired a few word processing systems, circa 1986, that have a floppy drive and monochrome CRT display. The model name is called TypeStore. The only I/O ports other than power cables on these are the DB9 video out, and a DB9 data in. I cannot find instructions for these. Therefore...

    TI-74 Basic programs?

Thanks for this! It's a great excuse for me to break out my TI-74 and CC-40 again.
