Currently working to restore an original Cromemco Cyclops board! I found Bill Sudbrink's incredible website and recreations, and was wondering if anyone had dimensions on the TenTec JW-6 enclosure used in the article. I found a close match (JW-8) and want to cut it down to size, but can't seem to find that reference material anywhere. Bill if you're out there, would love your measurements!

Thanks for any help!

It would be fun to repair an original Cyclops or re-create the Cyclops, it is suited to work with the Dazzler. Ideally it would be an exact replica with the same lens & housing too.

I mentioned some aspects of it in my Dazzler article in the intro.

I wouldn't mind building a cyclops myself from scratch.

If you have the original board can you photograph it in detail. I can usually replicate pcb's fairly closely from photos, if I also have the schematics.

I'm big on building exact replicas, recently I replicated the Manipulator and 20.005 MHz transmitter from Sputnik-1:

I replicated the PCB and started putting one together last year. However, something more shiny came along and distracted me. I should really get back to this :)

Oh I see.

This "Cyclops" was a version made to drive the H & V deflection inputs, and intensity input on a scope.

This is entirely unlike the original Cyclops which interfaced via the Dazzler and allowed the image to go into computer memory.

On this particular Popular Electronics Cyclops project:

Ha ! I recognize the housing they put it in (what are the chances of that ?), it was the same housing that CCI (communications concepts Inc) used for their TK-1 frequency counter.

(have a look at the attached image).

They discontinued it a about 20 years ago, (in fact I bought their last pcb stock, but they had run out of the enclosures by then). But they are still there, if you email them they could likely tell you who supplied that particular enclosure and they may well have the geometry info still:

So have the foils for the original Cyclops ever surfaced? I think this needs to be our next replica effort. :)

Or does anyone reading this happen to have an original/unbuilt kit and willing to scan the PCB's? (long shot, but you never know - after finding not one but two people with unassembled JS-1 kits in the forums)

Yes, I agree, it is the next project to be targeted for replication. I suspect it would be a rare item to find either built or un-built. But if somebody has one and could provide the details, I think we (the Cromemco replica team) could do a good job on it.
