Disassembling a Sony Vaio PCG-505 battery?

Hey folks. I can't figure out how to disassemble these batteries (so as to rebuild them with new cells) without destroying them. I think they may be ultrasonically welded. :(

Both the standard capacity and the folding extended capacity one.

Any tips? If nothing else, I guess I can cut along the seam with a dremel (very carefully), but the end result won't be very pretty that way. :/

Thanks!!!

Usually with battery packs I use either a hammer and a block of wood or a lead shot dead-blow along the seam to break the glue/weld, but you have to be careful as you can damage or dislodge components in the battery (done that) or dent the old cells, risking a fire. (been there too....)
Otherwise I'm not aware of any other easy ways to crack open packs. They're almost always permanently closed up.

Definitely ultrasonically welded. I'd start from whatever side isn't visible on the outside of the laptop, and then hope the side that it cracks open cleanly once you get the other side free.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Well a couple of them came apart into fewer than 5 pieces, so I guess there is enough left that I can JB weld all the breaks. So fragile! I've done Thinkpad batteries before with no issues, but these are being a real challenge.

If I had the skills to model it, I'd 3d print a new battery pack that you could slot the old charge controller into.
