Who is still running a VAX/780?

Germany. Your pictured board would perfectly match to my VAX and the box would also do.

Who is still running a VAX/780?

Current situation: About (1): I have -Main rack: CPU, FPU, DW780, 16 MB RAM, MBA RH880, Emulex HDC, power supplies. -four huge hard disks -one 1/2" tape drive Missing components: -At the main rack: board M8272 (part of DW780). (4) -The complete console processor rack. (5) -The UNIBUS rack...

Who is still running a VAX/780?

The 780 uses floppy disks to boot the console processor: 8" Floppies at DEC VAX, 5,25" disks originally at my VAX. Would you like to publish a picture of the VAX interface card? The usual boards in the 780's console processor are M7264-YC, M7946, M7940, M8400-EH, M9400-YE. The last one is VAX...

Who is still running a VAX/780?

Robotron version. But fortunately the boards are compatible to DEC's. Only the console processor was an own development of Robotron. But there is no chance to get an original one...

Who is still running a VAX/780?

I have such a heavy metal computer as an exhibit in my museum, showing three major problems: (1): The machine is incomplete, I'm failing to make it functional again because missing spares. (2): The computer has four hard disks and don't find a way to save its data. (3): I'm still not familiar...

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

I don't have anything from DEC at my PDP. But I think it does not matter. The software behavior of my 1/8" cassette tape drives is possibly similar or identical to TU58.

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

A new theme: I can boot my PDP from 1/2" reel tape with a [hardware specific] PRESRV. Because my PDP has also boot-able cassette tape drives, I use PRESRV to copy the system area from reel tape to an empty cassette tape. If I boot the PDP from cassette tape then, the cassette is read until the...

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

I don't understand, please describe! To me PDP11GUI is a (functional enhanced) replacement of an operator terminal, allowing to connect to a physical PDP (via serial line) or to a virtual PDP (SIMH at the PC via telnet). .TU10 is the format that SIMH expects to mount an image file as a tape in...

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

Not conflicting. I can handle tapes formerly written by PRESRV without problems: dupe it at the PDP to another tape or transfer it to a PC via PDP11GUI. At the PC I can extract PRESRV image files (.TM10) created by PDP11GUI. But I see no way to transfer the content of this one tape (it was not...

    AS/400 tape extraction

I think I will find a way to log also the block sizes. Lets assume I would have already done it. How would it help for file extraction?

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

I'm already beyond this point, can boot/run PRESRV, can extract files from such backups also outside PDP. My problem is a little bit more difficult. This is the thing which is technically impossible: I have a a boot-able 1/2" tape (special OS) with block sizes > 51 KByte. I can boot my PDP...

Is anybody still working with tapes at a PDP/11?

Of course it was. I have dozens of tapes from different previous owners, written with this program. So I would like to dive deeper into this software. The hardware abilities of my PRESRV kernels differ from tape to tape. Is there a way to inspect which drivers are linked in a PRESRV kernel? Do...

Does somebody knows the program PRESRV? Is somebody using PDP11GUI to handle tapes?

    AS/400 tape extraction

I own an AS/400 QIC tape, formerly written with OS/400. Now I've created a dump file of it, via DD command at a UNIX computer. Is there a tool to extract PF's and PFM's from such a dump? Or is there an OS/400 emulator which can mount such a dump?

    Rare PDP/11 software

You see there was no progress in the last 9 years... 14" Hard disks (39/120 MB), functional. 14" Removable disk (2,5 MB), still unrepaired. Paper tape readers, functional. 8" floppy disk drives, controller defective. 1/2" Magnetic reel tape drives, functional. 1/8" Magnetic cassette tape...

    Rare PDP/11 software

No. But K1600 has at least two 8 Bit Bitslice processors U830, cascaded to act as a 16 Bit processor. You see them at my linked picture above. The EPROM's at this board provide the external microcode for the U830's. U830 can also work in foursome as a 32 Bit processor.

    Rare PDP/11 software

I feel honored you remember me. :) Unfortunately default RSX11M does not run at my computer: no drivers matching to my hardware.

    Rare PDP/11 software

Partially. OS/RW (OCPB) was made in Soviet Union for computers which are completely compatible to DEC. Because this system was available as source codes, Germany modified OS/RW to make it usable at K1600 architecture. The Russian OS/RW does not run at my hardware. I know. It is one of my tapes...
