    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

Yes, it seems too much for just a CPU-only deal. From what I remember from the early 90s and the local stores, clone makers just sold the bare minimum: Media + Certificate + EULA wrapped on a piece of cardboard. No box. I'll scan the EULA, perhaps the legal text will provide some hint. Or not...

    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

"Not for retail sale except with an Intel i386/i486 Microprosessor-based system". Does this imply some special retail Windows pricing (and packaging) for customers choosing an Intel CPU for their new system back in 1993?

    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

Almost. No wrap and some text changes. "Microsoft" added above WINDOWS and copyright text?

    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

I got this same Intel Windows 3.1 year or so back but it's the 3.5" version.

    486 DX/2 66 - Switching speeds down to 33

Not precisely a method for dropping to 33 MHz but so far I've tackled all my DX2@66 slowdown needs by just disengaging the turbo button and/or disabling Internal Cache from the BIOS (there should be a program the latter also).

EGA Cards that have a composite signal through their RCA ports

EGA Wonder cards with dropped support. I believe those are EGA Wonder 800 and EGA Wonder 800+. And regarding EGA Wonder's composite signal color/monochrome situation. I've tried to get some light on this quote from the EGA Wonder Manual: "The EGA Wonder NTSC output can be converted into Colors...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

I do prefer quality tools/equipment but as the Altronics one is in a kit format and I am not confident with my soldering skills, I went with a low ohms one from the east. It will now just take some time to arrive. If I get inpatient, I may test Q603 as described earlier. Thanks for the support...

Looking for JC-1404HMED+PWE-270A (NEC MultiSync 3D) Service Manual

The content of that seems to be the same that I have already have but I'll check. Thanks!

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

With D605's one left lifted, C622 measures in-circuit 232 Ohms / no continuity / 19.91 F with a DMM. When I get an ESR meter, I will repeat all unpowered tests with documenting the progress and measurements. Anatek Blue's price is OK but shipping to Finland (US $161.84) a bit too steep. In any...

Looking for JC-1404HMED+PWE-270A (NEC MultiSync 3D) Service Manual

Dear Forum Members, Looking for a better quality version of my current NEC MultiSync 3D Service Manual Model JC-1404HMED PDF scan. Ideally it would have all pages present, visible PWB for the assy content, better/clear resolution of all schematics and searchable text. Also interested in a...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

D605 measures 0.466V and 0L with one leg lifted. Perhaps C622 was affecting the measurements? I will continue unpowered tests of all related parts and paths (according the schematic diagrams) as I have not tried that yet. Also I need to order a tester for testing the capacitors in-circuit. A...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

L601 measures 27.7 Ohms out of circuit. It has a marking "222KC" on top of it. Most likely OK just as expected. I have been re-measuring unpowered parts and their connectivity with the parts mentioned in the circuit descriptions. No clear suspects found yet. I will start preparing for testing...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

L601 measures 27.5 and no continuity both ways/directions. It is a small? part located on a separate small pwb (top-left corner on the pwb seen here). I'll try the one-leg approach on this one first. I have two 3D service manuals, one with great resolution but for the US? 120V 60Hz JC-1404HMA...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

An intermediate update. Some unpowered, in-circuit measurements below. Both Q601 and Q603 produce high resistance and no continuity via their pins. I am assuming that my DMM detects continuity with low resistance parts and depending on the circuit. Next I will visit the local electronic parts...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

Thanks Hugo for the detailed answer. It's good to get others thoughts regarding the trouble shooting flow. I initially though it could be just blindly followed and the root cause would surface. Currently I have an UNI-T UT61D (CAT IV 600V, CAT III 1000V) DMM that I got for measuring G2 (my 3D...

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

Have not yet pulled the main pwb, visually all caps near IC402 and on the CRT pwb look good. I'll check them if I ever need to pull the main pwb, thanks for the tip!

NEC Multisync 3D Switching Regulator Unit Dummy Load Resistor / Stuck at Trouble Shooting

In the current state, all the way through with "NO" to all paths. For path "The voltage across IC601 pins 13 and 16 measured between 1V and 9V", my DMM gives a steady +17V. And for path "The voltage across + and - terminals of D601 is approx.", my DMM gives +325V. (Is the service manual...
