    Pacific Northwest trs-80 model 100 disk/video interface

hi all! i was wondering if anyone had a DVI for the model-t they were willing to part with. i'm particularly interested in one that comes with boot disks and the elusive cable. back ups or digital copies of the boot disks would be fine. i could probably figure out making a cable too if there...

TRS-80 Model 100 worked great, suddenly won't turn on.

don't worry, i just ordered a replacement battery, and checked the condition a few days ago. it's looking a bit crusty, but everything is totally fine for now and it will likely get replaced this weekend if my batteries arrive. thanks for your concern.

Dumb terminal agetty keyboard layout filter

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i wanted to post a small update. i finally found time to work on my H19A, since it needed some repairs, and while i had the thing apart i worked on modifying the ROM. it took a lot of work -- mostly because it's extremely difficult to remove the ROM from...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Wow! this looks super useful, and I'll definitely give it a try! Thank you.

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

You might find chapter 6 of The Unix Haters Handbook to be funny (and relevant). The whole book is pretty fun overall, but it does have a few dodgy jokes here and there. I really like *nix personally, but it is interesting to see how much people hated it back when there were a ton of...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Looking at the h19 terminfo, it actually doesn't have the xon boolean set, which the vt100 terminfo does have. It's possible that in Heath/Zenith mode, it doesn't actually send the ^S when the buffers are close to full. It works in ANSI mode though, so it might be possible to hack the terminfo...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

The main remaining issue I've noticed so far is that reverse video isn't being disabled correctly by some programs. mainly tmux, which is kind of unfortunate, since i prefer it to screen. but screen does seem to resolve the issue. I was having this issue when running agetty manually from my...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

AHH!! This didn't work on the laptop I'd been doing everything from, but I dug out an old laptop and it seems to be working perfectly! Or at least as well as it can! I'll have to do some more experimenting, and try to get something more permanent working, but !!! It's working !!!!! I must be...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

My understanding is that the reason the machine doesn't technically support 19200 baud because it can't write characters to the screen memory fast enough to keep up, but it has a buffer where data overflows until screen memory is caught up. If the buffer runs out of room, then you will have...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

This is a good point, and you're probably right. Using infocmp shows that I'm using the h19 terminfo, and echo $TERM does too, so I think it's working correctly, but you are right about that being what would show up if it was doing the VT100 style escape codes. I actually use runit on void...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

The Heath control codes work perfectly fine when I input them manually in offline mode. I've actually tried it at 4800 and even lower speeds and the error is the same. It's not a persistent error, it only happens when starting certain programs. For instance, starting screen or vim, I get a bad...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

FYI, I got one of these and it works great. It doesn't drop any characters at 9600 baud, and seems to work perfectly at 19200 baud too.

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Sigh. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Trying different parity options, no changes. The screen won't even clear when term is set to z19.

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Maybe you have a different h19 termcap entry than I do (mine is from a Debian install)? Using Heath mode and the h19 termcap entry makes my terminal work way worse, and screen doesn't work at all. I'm really interested in that project of yours, and would be happy to help/contribute if you...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

I'm in the US. I have an H19A, and it's running at 60 Hz, and is in ANSI mode, but I've tried it in both ANSI and Heath modes. I think there are differences between the H19A, H19 and Z19 configuration stuff, I really need to scan my manuals and put them on archive.org. Here are the relevant...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Okay, I've tried using vt52 instead of vt100, and it somehow works worse? Not sure why that would be. With TERM=vt100 emacs, emacs seems to work without any issues. With TERM=vt52 emacs, the cursor never moves off of the line the cursor started on. emacs half works with TERM=ansi, but works so...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

Oof. That would do it. I'll give that a try and see if it resolves the issues. FYI, you can use infocmp on linux to check what terminfo is being used by your current terminal. It even gives you helpful errors saying where it looked for the terminfo file. (I've just been installing all of mine...

Heathkit H19A terminal doesn't work with VT100 terminfo on Linux

I was wondering if anyone had any experience getting an H19 or Z19 working well with Linux. Currently, I'm getting a lot of garbage on the screen when I attempt to run some programs, and then I have to go into offline mode, type <ESC>[z to reset the terminal, go back online, and then redraw the...

TRS-80 Model 100 worked great, suddenly won't turn on.

Seems like the issue was related to the backup battery. I left some AAs in overnight, and it turns on fine now. I have a feeling that the battery's charge drained quickly when I removed the AAs. Seems like the device won't turn on at all if the "memory power" switch is off, and I have a feeling...

TRS-80 Model 100 worked great, suddenly won't turn on.

i don't have a multimeter, so i can't check everything, but none of the caps seem to be bulging, or leaking, and nothing smells bad. the thing seems basically brand new. the battery isn't leaking or anything eithr. it could be capacitors, but i'd be pretty surprised. just before it stopped...
