What is this external Tandy Floppy drive and whats it work with?

The drive probably won't work with most external connectors since it requires power over the cable. Some external floppy connectors provide no power; others may provide power but on different pins. The Manzana card had connectors for attaching an internal floppy cable and power cable to the...

How do I turn off mutilation of my post text?

Let see what happens with the CODE tag. Yup, works in a code block though the new interface doesn't always add a code block to the message. O(n) is another attempt.

    LISP Machines

There were some fun debates within the Lisp community between those demanding specialized hardware that was as fast as possible no matter the cost and those wanting capable Lisps that could run on affordable hardware. The market for dedicated Lisp machines collapsed in the late 80s. It became...

Where are the 5110, 5120 and 5130 posts?

There were Business BASICs available for many micros. Business BASIC focused on accurate integer math. Those were the competition to the BASICs IBM used with mainframes and mid-range systems. However, Business BASIC was not going to fit in an 8K ROM like MS BASIC did.

    SCSI Utilities/Tool Kit

The Corel SCSI 2 files are all several years older than the files in the PDSCSI. Missing from PCSCSI were backup and scanning tools. Unfortunately, the USB floppy drive I tried to have read the disks was unable to read 2 of the 6. I will try it with an internal drive or see if I still have the...

What is this external Tandy Floppy drive and whats it work with?

RSC-21 lists it with the 3000, 3000HL, 4000, 4000LX. 720K. Host powered which can be inconvenient without the matching connector. Note that Manzana did a lot of adapter boards for various systems so that drive won't be tethered only to the listed Tandy machines.

    8" 96-tpi drives

The Elcomatic drives were the ones I would have expected to succeed. Slap the 80 track 5.25" heads into an 8" drive. Spend a few hours fixing any problems with the heads moving. Double the capacity for the same price. There wasn't much compatibility between 8" formats anyway so a little more...

Where are the 5110, 5120 and 5130 posts?

The 5100 was quickly obsoleted by newer chips. There wasn't an Amdahl 5100 either. Not much point in reproducing the exact system when an equivalent can be thrown together for a lot less. The Soviets went with a number of portable mini-computers with DEC minicomputer derived CPUs...

Insight into IBM software (5110/5120 by the mid-1980s)

Dortmund is a city in Germany. Leuven is a city in Belgium. A quick search shows that there is some form of partnership between the libraries located in those cities. Possibly only involving the university libraries in both. The references point to KU or TU in conjunction with the city name...

    8" 96-tpi drives

Maybe? There was an announcement for some models. The Hitachi model was the FD-441 with a capacity of 9.6 MB. The Elcomatic model was ACP 1500 with a capacity of 3.2 MB. From Disk Trends 1985 which means what was produced in 1984 Note that either way, those drives were uncommon. Hitachi only...

Mid Atlantic Odd Gray 3.5” Floppy Drive - make offer

I think that style of eject button was common with mid-90s consumer Compaqs.

New England Late 90s Macintosh Firewire External DVD+RW/CDRW QUE! DRIVE, never used like new

Intel had about a 10 year run of including Firewire (1394) in chipsets plus some USB expansion cards also included Firewire. With a Pentium III or Celeron Pentium 4, Firewire's limited CPU usage made it very attractive. I purchased a bunch of external USB/Firewire enclosures because they were...

New England Late 90s Macintosh Firewire External DVD+RW/CDRW QUE! DRIVE, never used like new

A shame no one picked it up. I have a similar unit and it works nicely.

VGA video RAM as regular memory

Does that model of Leading Edge use an 8086 and have specialized 16-bit memory slots? A few oddball PC near clones tried that. I can't quickly find anything about the earliest Leading Edge machines. If it doesn't have special memory slots, I suspect that it will run with any standard 8-bit...

    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

Intel made a lot of very good motherboards but complete systems were not available under the Intel name in the US. So seeing Win 3.1 inside an Intel box is a bit of a surprise. I hope whoever buys the disks archives any Intel specific files.

Anyone who has built up a microchannel system with sound, compact flash, ethernet, etc., was it worth it?

I had one of those Ultimedia systems IBM offered in the 90s. Model 77 IIRC. It was adequate to the task. Much of the PS/2 lineup wasn't quite to the standard one expected from IBM. The tower cases were a joy to work with. What went into those cases was underdeveloped with SIMM sockets that...

How to use floppy drive cleaning disks?

Checking the read/write heads after repeated uses of a cleaning disk is a good idea. It may be that grunge has built up on the sides of the head. The cleaning disk won't remove it. The effect is like running a plow over the disk and anything loose will join the buildup of material. There was...

    Reorganization of 'Genres' Category

I think the company list would be for companies that largely didn't share technology with competitors or clones while the technology groupings would include many tiny companies that all built off a relatively similar set of reference designs. No forum design will make everyone happy but this...

    SCSI Utilities/Tool Kit

The retail boxed Corel SCSI 2 has 5 DOS/Windows disks plus an extra disk for OS/2. The only obvious element missing from the PD version is a set of SCSI scanner tools. I could check the disk contents and see what else is missing from PDSCSI. I presume PD was for the improved phase change...
