A flake to avoid on ebay

Did you pay for the item by credit card by any chance?

If so, I would be on to the credit card company.

I wouldn't let it lie there out of principle...

If you have evidence that it was returned to the purchaser, there must be some avenue you can take. Don't forget, that eBay are just there to 'fob you off' to start with...

Exactly! Letting your money get stolen is something a child would do. How have you not been on the phone trying to get your money back? That idea is absurd to me. Its your money and your just giving it away with no product?! Thats just stupid to me.

Right now im on the phone with my bank to dispute an $8.85 charge for something that I ordered 2 months ago and wasnt delivered. Why? ITS MY F$%KING MONEY!

I tell my wife companies expect people not to bother, meanwhile the average consumer is hemoraghing money. Its your money its ridiculous to not expend some effort and get it back.

edit: By the way my bank issued me my money back no problem. Because that is thier job. Easy. These things happen and happen regularly.. I dont give my money away to fraudulent people.

So why were you not on the phone with paypal or your bank? How can you just let that slide? Its your money? Thats ridiculous. I would have my money back.. It would be really stupid of you to be to lazy to get YOUR OWN money back. Ive run into this before where people are too timid to demand thier money back. I dont get it!
I had a seller back in the 2010-ish time period actually ship by USPS then it showed in tracking that it went to the sort facility nearest him/her and then showed at the post office of the seller and delivered - to the seller. Nothing about undeliverable or that it even got out of the seller's state (NV IIRC) so my guess it that seller scammed both ebay and buyers by showing it shipped but actually shipped it to himself/herself. The seller didn't bank on me knowing my postmaster at the local post office and he could do an inquiry in their system as to where it was addressed and he printed it out. I scanned that and sent it up to both eBay and Paypal as part of filing an Item Not Received claim and they of course gave the seller a day or two to respond. The seller didn't respond and Paypal pulled the funds from the seller's bank and refunded me. I assume eBay kicked the seller as I looked at the item listing in my bought page and it said something about the seller being no long registered or something to that effect. Only $30 but at that time that was almost 2 hours wages for me.

Its a matter of principal. You did the right thing.. And better yet you probably saved a few people from his scams.. for a while anyway.

avoid the seller gorml-denis on ebay, They are clearly junkers, and disgustingly filthy ones at that.. I bought a used dell mini netbook as I need something small for serial connection. I kid you not, they sent it inside a used cereal box stuffed with plastic bags. Yes it arrived broken!. And filthy. the herpesipho-lisis is strong on this one. Nothing is more gross than someone who sends filth. It clearly shows they must be filthy too! I rubbed it down hard with rubbing alcohol before I would touch it. I sent a bunch of emails to the seller asking if it was broken or damage and they assured me it wasnt. Its trash and obviously a victim of abuse and liquid damage. Possibly stolen. Look how corroded the usb socket is! And the vga. I opened a claim and the seller says I need to contact USPS and file a claim! I cannot wait to escalate this!

Just my 2 cents about ebay - it might be easiest to request a return because the item arrived not as described in the listing. For instance, if the listing says 'used' and not 'for parts', then that assumes that all parts are in working condition, so the bad USB port would render the listing invalid. Might be easier to leverage the 100% buyer protection than to go through the shipping company, assuming the listing was not forthcoming about the actual condition.

Oh of course! Why would I go through USPS as the buyer?! The claim would be denied immediately as I dont think the Cereal box is certified in shipping edge crush testing.

Anyway, The seller kept claiming "they saw not damage" and I told them what would happen if they continued this course. I am after all an eBay seller too. I know how it works.
They sent me a full refund, they didnt even send a return shipping label. That completely implies they knew it was total garbage and not worth it to pay return shipping. These junker sellers are way to common on ebay especially with computer equipment, modern or vintage.

Ok so they refunded me in full without shipping it back. This means they knew it was a basketcase. I guess I have nothing to lose to try and make it "workable". The only money invested was for the new AC adapter which works fine for around $12.00

Im going to take it apart for a thorough clean and diagnosis.

Pulling the keyboard shows definitive spill damage.

You can see how caustic it was and how the copper RF paint is now green and the alluminum support bracket is severely corroded.

Whats this? Burn marks on the tape?

These two ICS are scorched. The raised dimples are burns and my dental pick can go right in. Im pretty sure this is part of the power charging circuit. I dont think a new battery will ever work on this laptop again sadly.

The date and time/CMOS settings wont hold either. I hope a new battery will resolve that unless its part of the same circuit.

I have the whole thing apart now. Its gross. There is FILTH and corrosion everywhere inside the chassis. Im going to use the dishwasher on the mainboard and chassis and hand clean the LCD assembly, keyboard (only because its membrane) and touchpad/palmrest. If it dies in the wash Im no worse. If it works the same at least its clean and the corrosion is stopped.

IMG_20241127_113752.jpgThe keyboard bezel had two broken retainer nuts. Im assuming also a result of the cereal express shipping.

This is the USB connector that is full of corrosion and rust. Ill try cleaning the contacts after the wash. This style USB connector also has the DC voltage symbol silk screened on it. What does that mean exactly? This unit has a standard barrel plug for DC.

Look at the insane corrosion on the Ethernet port. Amazingly it works. The first thing I did when I got it was image the hard drive over ethernet.
