I want to build a couple Audio video cables for the C128/C64. I need 8 pin Din male connectors but most you find are incorrect. The Din connector is horshoe or "U" shaped and the 8 pin connectors you fin have a round pinout.

I was wondering why these connectors I ordered seemed like such a pain to plug in.....
Yeah, apparently using the wrong size din connector can damage the AV jack. There are several posts online going over this but here is one: https://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31735

270° 8 pin dins are what you find but the Commodore needs 262° 8 pin din connectors which are hard to find.

Thanks for the link. Appears to be out of stock. I assure you they ARE HARD to find.
No, actually - they are not hard to find if you do a little homework - Google "DIN 262 male"
Console 5 (one of my favorite goto stores has 90+ of them)

Finding one doesnt make them easy to find but thanks pizza. Console 5 is a reputable seller.

Christ have I stumbled into an Apple forum on accident? IT must be "well actually...." Day or something. These new guys.... Yeesh.

Technically those extra pins on the top of the horseshoe are unused. You can get the "wrong" one and just clip them off. Only the extra middle pin is used for anything (chroma).

The only use I've ever seen is a custom cable that uses pin 7 for a second audio output, but there are already better ways to do it.

Thats what I've done. Works a treat and easy to get.

I could have provided you a few more links beyond one of my favorite vendors.

Ironic also, because I thought I stumbled into an Apple forum having read your adamant statement "I assure you they ARE HARD to find."

Don't feel bad though, I realize Google might still be a novelty to you OGs - "Yeesh" :)

Found this thread because I have the same problem. I need the 262° ones, not the more common 270° ones, for a Sega Mark III.

Gary C, I think the SV80 is the 270° type, and the SV81 is the 262° model.

So far I have identified the Hirschmann MAB 8 SH as being 262° type, for a PCB mount socket. The CUI SDF-81J (not the 80J!) is also 262°, but doesn't seem to be available. No luck on available cable mount plugs yet.

The relevant standard is IEC 60574-18.

I have found some AliExpress sellers offering 262° plugs and sockets, so will probably end up ordering a few from there. I am going with the Hirschmann footprint for my PCBs for now as it's the only numbered part you can actually order.

I believe I bought mine from Aliexpress a couple years back. I couldnt find the listing anymore but it was titles 262 and they fit properly.

Gary, you are right. It's CUI who use 81 for the 262° ones. Just to add to the general confusion...

VERAULT, I am going to get some of these from AliExpress which claim to be the right ones: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004612689660.html

I think Cliff FM6728 might be the right socket too, so I'll order a couple later this month when some other bits I need come back in stock.
