Atari's 800 XL FDD.

Hello,
My friend have that machine and FDD. He don't have any disks.
I have few questions:

1. Can he format the diskette under BASIC?
2. If not. What he need to formati it? DOS or CP/M?
3. Are there any drivers requied for FDD?
4. I know, that Atari read PC disks. Can he write OS to diskette by Rawrite?

The 8-bit Ataris use their own OS. They are not MSDOS or CP/M compatible.
The Atari ST however can read MSDOS disks as you say, but has a completely different OS than the 8-bits. Your friend needs to get an Atari 8-bit boot-disk.
