COOL ultima 6 "tricks"

so who else spent WAY too much time back in "the day" on this game? i still play it. in fact i'm playing it right now.

here's a couple tricks if you love this game. first, if you didn't know this you can hit alt+214 on the numeric keypad from anywhere in the game and you get a teleportation cheat. it looks like it's what the programmers used to travel quickly.

it'll ask in "gargoylian" - lol - for 3 hex values, which are the map X position you want to travel to, the Y postition, and the realm (0 is the main brittanian map, 1 to 4 are underground maps, and 5 is the gargoyle world)

here's a labeled screenshot of me putting in coordinates to a location in the gargoyle realm:

now, you can also hit alt+213 to get a large number. the last 6 digits are the X, Y, and realm of your CURRENT position. screen shot:

that's all fine and dandy, but you ask how do you know where the heck you want to go and the coordinates for it? there's where this little utility i wrote the other night comes in. i'm always programming some dumb thing.

last but not least, do you want to force anybody in the game to join your party? including LORD BRITISH? do not arm him with a weapon, as his hands kill with 1 strike to anybody/anything.

That's cool. I just used the spam spam spam humbug cheat with Iolo. Never new about the one hit kill, I always gave them weapons also (actually I had two people permanently join the team without cheating, but then gave them weapons and boosted their stats).

I still couldn't beat the game (given I was goofing around and enjoying the world and freelance play). One interesting thing I did do is I gave myself the gargoyle runes and tried to use them. They ask for a word which I never got right, be interesting to figure out if there is one that was activate them lol.

yeah, the only char with a true 1 hit kill ablity is lord british.. and of course he can't be in your party without using the tweak.exe cheat.

i've never beaten it either. the world is huge and used to mainly just explore and meet people rather than actually try to win. it's a pretty amazing game for 1989.

btw if you use alt-214 and enter 0, 0, 0 - you get transported to the middle of space.

When I modded my characters (attributes and I think ice arrows) I went after the main gargoyle (not sure if I actually found him or just teleported him to me or something.. really don't remember) but figured 6 on 1 we could kill him and see what happens. He ended up flying to a shore and he would get just out of range , then fly in one space, get hit with a few arrows, fly out again. Never made any noticable progress.

I can't remember if it was 6 or 7 that I didn't have the manual for so when Lord British (OT, my father just met with him a week or two ago; (he's a big sponsor and donator on a lot of green saving the earth things which is cool)) asked me the questions to get out of the castle I couldn't get them right unless they were traditional D&D questions that I knew anyway. I got frustrated and attacked, obviously my ass was less than politely handed to me. Went in again, just for the fight, modded our stats, then modded the king's stats (he had some rediculous like 32000 HP or something) down to not much and we killed him and the game crashed lol.
