eBay trend...

Most of the XEON chips I have on the X99's are 130W TDP and I just use EVO 212 heatsinks for them and they don't get warm. Gamer boards are built for overclocking so the VRMs don't break a sweat.

What I hate is that newer gaming power supplies are 800W and up because of the power-hungry Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs so they are $100-300 a pop and I like the older 500-750W ones that were $50 on sale. Also, good luck finding decent used computer cases anymore (and I don't mean gutted DELL ones).

My jointer, drill press and lathe are Chinese-made, but purchased long before Harbor Freight, back in the 1980s from B&M dealers. They're basically great hunks of cast iron and have lasted a long time. I recall chatting with a machinist back then about the Taiwanese vertical mills compared to, say Bridgeport. His opinion was that the Taiwanese mills had more putty in the castings, but from a precision standpoint, just as good.

I don't get why all of these websites have these "third party sellers" offering merch on the vendors website.

Walmart, Amazon, Best buy (I actually think they stopped doing this), home depot and many others.

What do they get from allowing these other vendors to sell on their sites?

Of course Walmart.com will have just about anything you search for, but mostly from a 3rd party seller at a rip off price.

It enrages me.

Also, does Bic not make the classic white/black ballpoint pens anymore? I was going to order some at Walmart since I have Walmart +, but could not find them online, and they are not in store. I did a brief search on Google from my phone and couldn't even find a picture of one.

Harbor Freights prices are pretty much a joke now too. My town finally got one a few years back, but now there is little I would buy there anymore. Most power tools I may as well buy from a 'decent' retailer since the extra cost is not much different, and they have longer warranties elsewhere. And they have a habit of dropping their battery powered product lines and leaves the customer that bought into it screwed. I'd probably like the store much better 10 years ago before they tried to compete directly with the 'big boys'. There are still a few things id get there though. The Predator engines have a decent rep as far as being Honda clones, and I have a couple generators and a welder I bought on discount.

The 80s stuff was typically Taiwanese I had thought. Not that it made stuff better automatically. The quality of the castings were questionable. Tapped holes, smaller ones anyway, would strip out. It's the devilish details that are the main issues with chaiwanese machinery of decades past or present. So it's not all about accuracy. Initially it was there. But will the machine keep it's accuracy? A good deal of the "name brand" (Jet) stuff from the mid 90s +/- was shoddy. Certainly didn't follow even basic best practices. If you got a good one you were lucky. But all machinery these days, regardless of where it's made, has flaws that might surprise you. In the $500-5000 category anyway.

I was a bit surprised to find that some low-end SSDs that I ordered came from Newegg (shipped by them). Friday, I ordered a gallon of Zep odor eliminator (we have dogs in the house) and received a text message yesterday (Saturday) afternoon that it had been delivered to my house--and it had. In this case, the vendor turned out to be Walmart. Nothing in either listing indicated the source.
Is this something new--regular B&M retail stores hiding behind eBay user IDs?
I'm not sure if I like this or not.
You got what you ask for cheap and quickly so the problem with that is....?

Gamer boards won't have the limitations a knockoff board with used chips may.

In the few years before covid, corsair, seasonic, etc. 650 watters for ~$35 after rebate/discount were not at all uncommon. I bought a bronze 700 watt evga for $80 in mid 2020. Supply chains, inflation, Bidenomics has more to do with inflated prices. Granted people want and need more power. I got a Thermaltake 700 white I guess for around $50 not too long ago. Same unit about the same now. 700 is probably the minimum anyone should be buying nowadays. 850 or better preferred. For newer builds with an emphasis on hc gaming. Really though how many people are rocking rtx 4060 or 4080s. For those I guess 1000 watt is a safe choice.

I wouldn't be happy if I buy a used car online from "George" and give him my money and then it was actually "Steve" who owned the car and handed over the keys.

Maybe I have stock in a rival company. Maybe Newegg burned me in the past and I went to another store to not support them.

Whatever the reason it's just scummy.
How are the transactions handled? If I buy from Walmart does Newegg gain my credit card info? Do they both? Even if they don't have the credit card, they'd still have my personal data and the rate at which companies are getting compromised and data leaked isn't getting any lower.

Obviously the seller in this case has a connection the Walmart. The package was obviously traceable...So would the money transaction...

They get the same thing ebay gets. A cut of the sales.

IMO Amazon was much better when they only sold their own products and it wasn't full of knockoff garbage. But that's how it goes :cautious:
I figured that would be the case, that they get a cut. But I don't understand how these companies don't realize letting these third party sellers can damage their store's reputation. You search Walmart com for anything you want and results will appear. It may be exactly what you want if it is an odd or very specific item, but either it will be astronomically priced, or just show out of stock. So the site gets cluttered and some customers may assume of of their prices are outrageous.

And as far as the Amazon counterfeit items, that's another area where your brand can be tarnished.
A coworker just stated that be bought some batteries for a DeWalt drill a while ago, and Amazon reached out to him unsolicited and sent him some replacements along with a note that the other items may have been counterfeit. I don't know if they were or not, but at least they are trying to do something. Not that this excuses the issue at hand.

I also get somewhat annoyed when I order Pizza Hut and then I get a text that Uber is delivering it.

Not that there is really a reason to be. Either could tamper with my stuff. But I may have not ordered had I known that in advance. If pizza hut website would tell you when you're ordering they are short staffed and using Uber or whatever that's a different story.

Maybe I know that a middle school bully of mine or a crazy ex works at Uber and I don't want potentially at my house or near my pizza.

Or, maybe I am just paranoid.

For some reason, this practice annoys me more than it should

When I order from Newegg I make sure the item is being sold by them directly.
I haven't purchased anything from there in quite some time, and I used to be a frequent customer. If I were to order there, I would do the same.

Sounded like Op was not informed there would be another seller. At least, a certain vendor incognito.

Also, some customers may be ignorant to the fact there even are other sellers on these sites.

I have, however, ordered from Newegg on eBay just because for some reason they listed stuff cheaper there. Same with other stores. I may look for the vendors eBay store and look, since it usually is cheaper, free shipping, and easier to pay.

To me, that's a matter of who's responsible for delivering a product. Newegg might say (I haven't checked) that they warrant satisfaction to the original purchaser. Joe Blow, who took my money may or may not have a relationship with Newegg and send me in a runaround saying "it's Newegg who provided the product; it's up to them to honor the warranty." Newegg may say "Yes, but the warranty extends only to Joe Blow".

You get the picture. Had Joe made it clear that he was acting as an agent for Newegg (and Newegg would confirm that), I'd have no problem.

You can see this with various obsolete IC sellers on the web. They claim to have a certain part in stock, but they're just echoing the stock level that some other web vendor has posted. And the originator of the part may not even be aware of the seller advertising their wares.

Yeah, usually a brand will have a list of authorized sellers and if you have a warranty issue you may be SOL if the vendor won't help.

And, some sellers ship better than others.
I pre-ordered a special edition video game from Amazon once, and they shipped it in a manilla envelope and the box was crushed. All my orders from Walmart have come in a box, so I prefer them for certain things.

Also, Amazon doesn't even try at all anymore as far as packing the item. You're lucky if you get one airbag rattling around with the item in an oversized box

Amazon ships far too many items in envelopes.

About a year ago people in this area were complaining about "flex" deliveries I think it was called. A person showing up in an unmarked car with your Amazon loot. I generally don't pay attention but when I have it's almost always been an Amazon van. A lot of these may have been very early morning deliveries. And by people who didn't know a word of englaise.

Dont get me started on the questionable ghetto drivers coming to your home in thier private little cars (with girlfriends in tow).

Leaves you with a warm safe feeling. I live in the middle of nowhere. In an area not easy to get to. Noone just stops by... so when you see a strange car unexpectedly, you are always "Who the heck is this!?"

But honestly the big box panel truck drivers are worse! They dont require a CDL for these massive panel trucks.. These scumbags took out my plum tree while I was away on a long weekend. When I came back the roots were all exposed in the sun durring summer and the tree died. Because the idiot didnt know how to maneuver the truck.
I have some cherry threes too, and they keep backing into them breaking off limbs.

That and they drive off my driveway digging tire trenches in my lawn eroding the packing under my driveway causing it to fail and crack off the side.

At leaset the ghetto little econo cars arent causing that kind of damage.

One of them must have been at my neighbors who has a 3 foot slag boulder buried at the foot of his driveway. I left the house one morning and you could see it was driven into across several driveways and in front of mine with a long trench behind it! It must have been an amazon driver as the mail carrier doesnt come to the house typically. And they use the small modern jeepish right hand drive vehicles. I wish I could have seen the damage they did to the truck.,

As far as excess bags from amazon. I dont mind for the most part as I use them to reship all the time. HOWEVER when I buy a 32oz bottle of D lead, lead cleaning soap it would be nice if it came in a box so I didnt have to deal with the inevitable return when I open it up to see the pink mess inside.

You may want to relocate your fruit trees then so they don't get damaged....
