I was given 2 epson qx-10's and 1 qx-16 the other day. The 16 seems to be booting up but I get nothing on the screen. One of the qx-10's is model Q701A which seems to work just fine. The other is model Q801a which also boots fine but I get nothing on the screen. I do have 2 monitors that work just fine. The Q801a has some dip switches in the rear and I thought that might be my problem with having nothing on the screen. Can anyone out there help me solve these problems.

they both look the same and I did set the dip switches the same and no go. I need to find a schematic etc. that shows what the switches are for. Any ideas?

The schematic is available at http://electrickery.xs4all.nl/comp/qx10/doc/tm1_A3.pdf, but that will not help much as the DIP switches are read by software, not directly configuring hardware. But the QX-10 Operation Manual, Appendix G, describes the three switching describing memory sizes for the diagnostic programs:

Code:
Main memory V-RAM 6 7 8
192K 32K on off on
192K 128K off off on
256K 32K on off off
256K 128K off off off

The first is the 'safe' setting. Maybe you should try starting the Diagnostics diskette. It is available from the zips I got from Don Maslin years ago: http://fjkraan.home.xs4all.nl/comp/qx10/diskimages/DonMaslin.zip.

Hey, collector,

While looking for sum'n else, I turned up a handful of QX-10 manuals & original software disks. (CP/M & Valdocs). Can't swear the disks are any good or complete, but ya want me to send 'em along before they disappear again? Cost ya the price of a flat-rate box from the USPS, (if yer in lower 48 ) whatever that is these days (~$10.00???). Pm an addy to my inbox and I'll get 'em out to ya. Don't worry if yer short on cash, I can collect whenever, just want 'em out of the way.
