Howdy -

I am running GEM Desktop on an Olivetti M15, but i have no mouse and indeed GEM installed with that option.

So it boots and i am faced with the desktop. the cursor keys move my wee arrow around the screen X & Y axis and the drop down menus appear when i hover over them with my pointer arrow.

but how do i select anything or 'double click'? the CTRL key seems to freeze the system when pressed suggesting it is waiting for another keypress, but which key. When CTRL is pressed again, the system starts up - the arrow can be moved again.

I have tried the obvious CTRL -ESC/ALT/SHIFT/ENTER/BACKSPACE/DEL/F1 TO F10 and various others sorts of key presses. CTRL then another key. Both together. After each other.

but there are quite a few variables and no luck so far. mashing the keyboard in desperation also does not do anything!

any ideas as to the key combo for opening or double clicking without a mouse on GEM Desktop 1.2?

thanks in advance

Pressing CTRL by itself (in later versions, CTRL + RightShift) turns the keyboard mouse on/off; you'd use it if the running program wanted the cursor keys.

When the keyboard mouse is in use, the buttons are on the numeric keypad. In most versions of GEM they're 7=left click, 9=right click, 1=left drag. GEM 1.2 may be sufficiently early to use 7=left click, 9=right click, Shift+7=left drag.

super - the keys you suggested were correct.

the machine does not have a numeric keyboard and your suggestions didn't work with Num Lock on, but it did with Edit Shift.

thanks for time
