Hi! I like playing with old software from the DOS - Windows 9x era, and sometimes old hardware too. I've been accumulating compilers and other development tools and books since I was a kid in the early 1990s. Back then they were mostly too advanced for me - or at least for my attention span - and then they became obsolete pretty quickly, but I always hoped that eventually the right project would come along where I'd really want to use a particular version of Borland C++, and then I started playing with XLISP-PLUS which had a DOS build that worked with Borland C++ 3.1, a Windows 3.x build that worked with 4.5, and a Win32 build that worked with 5.0, and bingo, now I get to use three - dreams do come true!

I wonder why I signed up 14 years ago and then never posted? Was my attention span still that short back then? I forgot I even had an account, and once I established that I had one, I couldn't even find where I recorded my old password.

I have been meaning for a few years to get on here and ask IBM Portable PC if they ever made any improvements to 8XXTARG as discussed in this thread, but I'd better not necro a thread from 9 years ago, and I can't PM yet, so that remains on my TODO list. It looks like I can maybe @ people already, I'm not sure if they would get notified, but I won't try it in case that's considered cheating my way around the probationary period or something.

In case anyone is wondering, my avatar is from the About dialog in Borland Resource Workshop 1.02 as included with Borland Pascal 7. It's certainly got the typical '90s Borland "a bunch of 3D shapes" thing, but I think it's weird that it's so big that it's actually about the right resolution for a modern avatar!
