Hi,

Thought it only polite to pop in here since I'm new and just posted a desperate plea for help in another thread.

I recently changed careers - and am now following my geeky-heart. I'm a middle-aged mom who loves to tear apart computers to see how they work - sometimes causing them to no longer work. But, then I get to fix them, and that's the fun part.

I've recently become fascinated with my old 286 clone that has been sitting, abandoned, in a closet for several years. Although I'm most interested in getting some info off the old hard drive right now, I'm becoming intrigued with the idea of a scavenger hunt to find all the parts and pieces I need to bring it back to life. Which is how I stumbled on this forum.

Glad you're here...and chances are good I'll be checking in pretty often.

Welcome to the Vintage Computer Forums! Welcome also to the wonderful world of computers and vintage computers. I believe you will find all kinds of good information flowing around these forums!

It's good to see another person from Virginia (I lived there for 18 years, most of that in the Navy)!

Welcome!

I'm a former Virginia resident (just moved to Maryland) but I spent a lot of time in Northern VA.

Scavenger hunts are fun! So fun, in fact, my girlfriend has put me on eBay restriction. :)

I will see if I can save the ISA cards I tossed last night into the dumpster! I knew I should have held onto them to see if someone here needed them. I'll let you know.

Heheh. I know the feeling. My wife hasn't put me on a restriction yet, but she is giving me "the look" when I tell her I've bid on something else! Between vintage computers and Amateur Radio, I've been haunting eBay quite a lot lately. ;-)

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

I told the husband about the "e-bay restriction" thing mentioned above...and he reminded me of "his" policy - namely that I'm no longer allowed to attend auctions of any kind unaccompanied by a responsible adult. I told him I thought e-Bay didn't count - and insisted I only bid on things I absolutely need. His reply: "Oh - sure, like THAT makes a difference!"
heh-heh.

Thanks again, Folks.
Kathy

If you know of auctions in the area that sells off computer lots, let me know where and when they are. I might be able to get away with that. :)

Auction

I just got word about an auction coming up soon - it's a city warehouse auction. Much of the old city gov't computer/electronic equipment will be offered. If interested, let me know and I'll send additional details via e-mail as I get them. (I used to work for the city in question and still have lots of friends there)
