hello,
I seem to be having trouble getting my ps/2 8525 to boot to a dos prompt. I managed to get the ref disk to boot, but when I attempt to make a dos 5.0 disk it says "non system disk error". anybody know what files I would need?

It is the old "chicken and the egg" problem. To make a bootable DOS diskette, you have to have the 2nd reference disk that has DOS on it or ....
you need a bootable DOS diskette. The files are IBMBIO.COM, IBMDOS.COM and COMMAND.COM. The COMMAND.COM on the first ref disk in NOT the real command com. It has been patched to be only used with the first ref disk.

The IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM files are HIDDEN, SYSTEM files. If you do a normal "dir" command, they don't show up. Not that it matters, without the real COMMAND.COM file, you are dead in the water anyway.

Oh ya, snicker, without the real COMMAND.COM file loaded, you can't do a "dir" anyway.

sorry to revive a dead thread...but...
I was able to boot, using freeDOS. I've decided that this machine, due to lack of power, and a hard drive, or a 1.44mb drive, will be a netboot machine.
