Ict1301

It's a very nice looking restore job. But a 1962 computer hardly qualifies as "one of the oldest computers in the world" :)
 
Thanks, some great photos in this article. Flossie has been shown to the public at the annual Darling Buds car show, where I was fortunate enough to visit earlier this year. It is an impressive machine and well done to Rod and Roger for repairing and keeping the old girl going.

I think this publicity is due to Buss Farm being put up for sale:

and unless the new buyer agrees to let these two maintain Flossie in the shed it will have to be moved.

Hopefully the new owner will also keep the Darling Buds car show going :)

Reporter should have said 'one of the oldest working stored programme computers in the UK' but that doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Thanks for posting the videos! I've been trying to contact the project team, but so far without success; shame as I've love to see it 'in person'.

Just an update on the 1301 aka Flossie:

It was rescued from Buss Farm in Kent on February 25th after a mammoth job to separate all the various parts. It took three 18tonne trucks to move the machine and all the spares, but it has all been saved. It has gone to The National Museum of Computing. It's in storage at the moment until a suitable gallery can be made free to accommodate the machine. Of course then work starts again to restore it to working order.
 
Well done Kevin, Rod + team - must have been quite a job, hope someone will put some photos of the move up on the net.

There is an article on the ICT1301 about Flossies previous moves, she is certainly a big girl. Good luck to the NMoC, they have a lot of commitments not least of which are basic storage and restoring some the older WWII buildings, I expect it will take a fair few months before Flossie is back on show. Another hope is that the tape contents can be extracted whilst she is in storage, as the software is probably more fragile than the circuitry (and there are plenty of spare parts).
