Infos/docs needed: "CycloneRAID" from Western Scientific

I got this CycloneRAID unit a few days ago and seeking for infos. Especially interested in any kind of documentation. While I know what it does, I can not get it to do anything. The display turns on but does not show any text. The two buttons do nothing. It might very well just be faulty, or given that there is a DB9 serial port on the back, it may require configuration first over that port..?
