I just finished soldering the jump, isolating the pin, removing the J29 jumper, and bridging the J28 pins, which has resulted in a Color Classic with 640x480 resolution. :D
The border along the edge was a full 1 1/2", so I followed the directions for adding the capacitor. I managed to find a 3300pF, 2kV capacitor at my local electronics surplus store. It's in the middle between the 4k recommended (which I couldn't find anywhere, not even on Google or eBay), and the 3k to step up from.
This resulted in a nice 1/4" black border, which nearly identical to how it was before I made the mod, so I'm really impressed.
Here's a screen shot of the desktop in all its 640x480 glory, and I'll be uploading a picture of the little Mac in action once I find a USB cable for this old camera.
I'm really excited because this was the absolute first time I ever soldered. I don't wanna brag, but I think it turned out really well. I'll take some pictures of my soldering skills (or lack thereof.)
