My Lisa

Hello everyone!!! This is my first post in these forums. I am primarily an Atari collector (as you can see by my sig), but I do have a restored Apple Lisa that I thought I would share. I acquired it from my x-wife's old boyfriend back in the early 90's. It did not work so he gave it to me since he knew I was into 'computer stuff'. Turned out the only reason it wouldn't work was because the felt pad on the floppy drive head mech had fallen off and was lying in the bottom of the case. Of course, I didn't have any software at the time for it and couldn't get the ProFile drive to do anything. By chance, I was looking through a clearance bin of software at a music store in San Diego (where I lived at the time) and found a complete, unopened box of the Lisa Office System 7/7 for $10.00!! Of course, I still couldn't get the system to work right, probably because I had no idea what the h*** I was doing with the thing. So, it went into storage. fast forward to about 2005, I decided to break it back out and have a go with it, since I had done a bit more study on the system and how to get it to work. Using my new found knowledge, I managed to get the ProFile recognized and, using the 7/7 disks, formatted. I then installed the 7/7 system and presto!!!! Finally a working Apple Lisa. I had acquired another ProFile drive by this point and did the same installation on it.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. I will now slither off to the Atari forum and hide!! LOL

Very nice system and welcome to the forum.

I hate working on Lisas. I have one in here that's been taunting me for months (much like the Apple /// that gets a kick every time I go by it).

Unfortunately, it's a customer's unit and I'm going to have to break down and fix it, sooner or later.

Nice thing about being the only one around that fixes this old stuff is that they will wait FOREVER for me to fix it LOL

There is someone near me who owns a Lisa 2 in superb condition, unfortunetly he wants $900 for it.

Love to own one, but --- dont have that kind of money.

I think the LISA is a true ICON of computer history.

Wow, that is a nice system - congrats!

I was working at a large defense firm when they came out and we got one for evaluation. You could just see that it was going to be how we did computing from that point on - mouse and graphical desktop.

About the first thing my boss did was drag the calculator icon to the trash. "What did I just do?" he said... "Umm, you just deleted the calculator program"..!

Covet, covet! That is sweet. Could you tell us how you got the software to work? I seem to remember that you have to kludge the serial numbers on the software so they match the computer.

That's a great looking Lisa 2! I'm jealous. I'm glad you got it working.

So, in terms of value: Lisa 1s go for a lot of money, obviously. But, on eBay, I've seen Lisa 2s listed anywhere from $80 to $10,000. Seriously.

Someone needs to do a "breakdown" of the Lisa variations so that those eBay sellers (and buyers, for that matter) have a clue.

The problem is that the eBay sellers wouldn't look for a breakdown, they're just trying to make money off collectors.

A breakdown of Variations would be handy for everyone, not just Buyers/Sellers. Though some information on precise aspects of the Lisa can be tough to locate, if it exists...
