I have a non-DEC Qbus 4-wide board that I need to install in my BA23 cabinet/backpanel. I’m having issues with getting the board in, since it has handles instead of ejectors. What’s the best way to approach this?
I clean the edge connectors with isopropyl alcohol and then apply a thin coat of "Caig ProGold Contact Conditioner, Enhancer, Lubricant & Preservative" using the supplied tiny brush. I then spread the coating evenly using cotton tips - this also removes any excess. This very thin coating will make insertion & removal of boards much easier but has other desirable properties as well.
If the board does not have tapered edge connectors they can be REALLY difficult to get in... a bit of a chamfer to both sides of the board done carefully, with wrist strap and grounding makes it a lot easier...
Check if your board needs a Q/CD slot, or use one of the bottom 5 slots to be safe...
