The disk on my newly-aquired Personal DecStation 5000/25 has a fried PCB, looking for a spare,

thanks,

Update 15 Nov -6: well, I was able to replace two shorted capacitors and get the disk to spin-up, but unfortunately there seems to be more damage as the head actuator is not operating correctly.

Update 1 Dec 06: the disk is fried but I have the DECstation working now with a 2GB DEC replacement and netBSD installed.

The disk is a Digital Equipment Model RZ25-E, a 426 MB SCSI 3.5" half-height. There is no indication as to whom the disk is sourced from but is looks a bit like a Micropolis of that vintage.

There are lots of these available for $ on the net but this is a buget project. The power supply is also fried so the challenge is substantial.

Thanks,

-Paul

Not that it helps you at all, but some five years ago I was juggling those disks for a hobby. Eventually it ended up either at the junk yard or at some VAX smitten student who had too much room. If you had lived near me instead of on the other side of the planet and had asked back then, you probably could've gotten one for free. :?

Does it have to be an identical disk (to replace PCB), or would most SCSI disks of that age do if you're going to install anyway?

I would like to recover the data on the disk as it contains the original Ultrix OS and a high-end CAD program.

So, I really need the same model disk, which thankfully was relatively common at one time.
