As title says I need to locate a Tandy 1000a Technical or Service manual. I have checked tvdog and he doesn't seem to have it. Actual manual, PDF or web link to it would be appreciated

I can get you very close with a 1000SX manual (PDF). Its about 5 MB so you'll need to PM me with an email link.

I have the SX manual the TX manual the original 1000 manual already. That darn 1000a is like some odd beast Tandy forgot about I guess. It has an 8087 socket which Tandy says it doesn't and even 1 large square ASIC chip like that in the SX. Very weird! But I do appreciate it AO.

I have just about everything for the 1000 except the 1000a. OLDSKOOL has this, however: ftp://ftp.oldskool.org/pub/tvdog/tandy1000/documents/egat1k.txt
Looks like you can't do EGA/VGA on the 1000a because the CGA is hardwired - no switch.

I managed to get EGA to work in the 1000a with no problems! Just had to make a small machine language program to intilialise the EGA ROM. There is an article about at tvdog. This little debug program does the trick.
CALL C000:3
INT 20h 'return to DOS
But it is flakey and I get screen fragments. So not really worthwhile.

FWIW I don't think I've got the patience for a 1000a project - I've had my SX since '86 and it used to take up a lot of my time. Now with the HARGLE XT-IDE card, its fun to use again. I freed up a slot with a DALLAS clock, which lets me use a serial card whereby I can finally park my old Logitech bus mouse. I've got a 5.25 360 and a 3.5 720 along with a SCSI HD and a VGA card. What more could a guy asked for (lol)? So, what are going to do with the 1000a?

Well currently the 1000a is a 1000! Let me explain. I have a small problem with the 1000a video output. I have Fat Text! If there are 2 letter M's next to each other as an example no way of telling them apart. And if I have graphics up the colors are all messed up. So I was needing the tech manual to figure out which is the video chip. Now when I say the 1000a is a 1000 I have a 1000 board in it's case. And it's text is nice and clear. Same with my SX and the TX before I sold it. Maybe this post should be moved to the Radio Shack/Tandy section. And I think I will create a new thread. Admins please excuse double post.
