In 1984, I believe, with a pocketful of $$$ and a desire to purchase my first business computer, I walked in to a new Apple store, and coerced the sales man on the floor to sell to me a brand new Apple ///, along with every available book and software available at the time. I spent close to $5000.00 before I got out of there. $4000 of it just for the computer and printer. I was fascinated with the visicalc program and using 3EZPCS over the next year, entered all of my book keeping information onto the computer. Evenetually I also purchased a General Ledger program, which I never used....for 2-300 $$.
Keep in mind, that up to this point....17 months, I never knew how to get the imagewriter to print and was content to use the information off of the screen
to do business. I packed that thing up and took it on business like it was a portable. probably because of all of it's bouncing around, I never had a problem with the inner works falling apart and never had to do the 3 inch drop trick...( if you have a ///...you know what I mean). Eventually I got the printer working, and after going thru 4 boxes of pin wheel printer paper to print all my files, I was a complete man.....
Then one day....a jazzy little Packard Bell winked at me from the shelf of the local Sears store, and the world of windows and microsoft office opened up to me. Buying that, I immediately went home, unplugged the ///, put it in a wood box that I had built to store and carry it, and it has sit there ever since. I never considered i might have an antique, but I see, thru this forum, that i do. I know that I could part it out like a favorite old car, and sell all my books, and manuals etc, to have this disected, injected, rejected and assembled, but...it's my first baby....I can't do that to it. I want it to go to a good home.....I don't want to give it away, but I'm not real good at
bargaining, bartering and such. Any ideas as to what I should do?....
Also, keep in mind, that this unthrifty man is 25 years older, and due to my extravagant purchasing habits, I am not a wealthy person.

thanx in advance

My Apple II memories or lack there of...

My Apple II memories or lack there of...

My memories of the early 80's, no person at my age level had Apple II's, most had Commodore-Atari and TRS-80 type computers, the under 15 crowd.

When you look at the number of Commodore 64's sold and Apple II, you can see the above statement was widespread.

My memories of Apple II's were computers schools used.

Other than Schools with "Budgets" I would say the Apple II's was a rich kids computer, the C-64 was then what the PC is today, better/worse? Don't matter its what everyone is/was using by far and can AFFORD!

hold on a minute there...
I didn't realize that I had to actually remember the 80's to
discuss it:-D I seem to remember that there were a lot of
apple 11's and the thing I guess that attracted me to the III
was the statement that...this computer is large enough to run
10 x the capacity of a II. with the emulation disks and stuff..
sad part is,
I don't ever remember any fun stuff for the apple III.
The biggest blurr in my mind though happens to be the
Woodstock to Watergate era except for the rare conscious
birthday weekend.

Considering that I have 12 complete systems in my house,
maybe I should consider starting my own museum....
but who has the time.....or worse....
SADD....senior attention defecit disorder......wait...
there's gotta be a pill for that some where........

There is, but there haven't been any real good ones since WoodStock - WaterGate era. It ain't that the acid is bad, it's just that the strychnine is a little too good...
