Im looking for:

hard drive setup inc drive & controller (hardcard or MFM)
hercules vid card not sure the model but it was a full length card
8-bit CGA EGA vid card
CGA EGA monitor
good double height 360K 5.25 drive
8-bit NIC
8-Bit sound card
8-bit hdd/floppy controler?
and a keyboard too
any other stuffs I might need...

revised list of things I need, in case anyone has come across anything in the last week. I have acquired a video card, and keyboard.

8-bit SixPakPlus Card
8k memory chips
8-bit floppy controller
720k & or 360k floppy drive to use with aforementioned controller

Be aware that "NIC" could mean a Token Ring adapter too. Although RJ-45 connections hit the TR cards in later cycles, I haven't seen an 8-bit version unless you put a "media adapter" attached to the DB-9. For an 8-bit *Ethernet* adapter I would recommend the 3Com Etherlink II TP (drivers still online at the 3Com site!).

  • AST made the SixPak series
  • Look for a 3Com 3C503, NE1000, or a WD8003 card. Parallel port Ethernet adapters from Xircom work too.
  • Getting somebody to part with a working MFM hard drive setup for a 5150 is going to be difficult. Be ready to open your wallet up.

on the motherboard, in the 3 banks to the right of the soldered on memory chips. As each bank adds 64k of system ram, and there are 8 chips + the parity chip per bank I'm figuring each chip is 8k. The AST* SiXPakPlus also uses the same chips, which is my current need for them as some of my originals have failed. If the chips have a more technical name such as "16x4" or whatever, I had assumed those reading this would know what I was reffering to.

Will do, thanks.I actually have a Xircom Pocket Ethernet III parallel adaptor w/ dos drivers. However it uses a PS/2 port for power, I could find an AC adaptor.. but I'd rather have an actual card.

Yep, counted on that. But I'm not going to limit myself to just MFM, I'll take what I can get, Idealy.. I'd be happy as .... to find an 8-bit IDE/Floppy multi-I/O type of card. SCSI is still an open option as well.
 
64Kbit x 1 bit wide x 8 chips = 64Kbytes. You want 64K RAM chips. How many do you need? I might be able to dig up a few. Also have:

Herc card - $5.00 + shipping
MFM controler - $5.00 + shipping
Cables (?) - no charge
ST-412 drive, untested - free for shipping cost.

What is wrong with your current SixPakPlus card? I am sure if you cleaned it up and replaced the battery it would work. Modem7 has the AST driver file on his website.

Word. I had to swap a row of ram from my SixPak to the motherboard in order to get a full 256 on the motherboard. This weekend I spend much time on getting as much to work on the SixPak as I could. I got 2 full working banks for an addition 128k. I can get nothing more to work. Even after I gave the card a good bath and cleaned it really well. That leaves the other 4 banks. So.. I'll take what you can spare. Can you mix n match the chips? there are like 3 different kinds. However they are all grouped in banks.

That the Herc card that does something special with graphics? Not sure the model, or what it specifically did as special. I just know the one I had did something other monochrome cards didnt... that and IIRC it had 16k of video ram.

The controller pre-configured? Docs or instructions? Or easily found on the internet? The hard drive will work with that controller? (meaning compatible, I realise its untested)

I'd buy all that from you, thanks. Take paypal?

I have news for you. Each chip supplies 1 bit. So on the 64K motherboard you need four banks of chips, each chip being a 16K by 1 bit chip. And back then those were the finicky 4116 chips that required 2 or 3 different voltage levels to work, not just the normal +5 volts.

There is no such thing as an 8Kx1 DRAM.

With all due respect, you need to do a little more homework before asking for this stuff. It doesn't grow on trees.

Also, while I'm complaining, let's keep the specifics of transactions with members (or moderators) private in private messages.

Well, I gave it a bath, replaced the battery, checked all jumper configurations & switch settings, After many hours of playing swap the chip, I am unable to get any use out any banks worth of chips except banks 1 & 2. So its giving me an additional 128k on top of my 256 on the motherboard. Its either the card... or the chips. I got the fist to banks working and Im stuck at 6040 201, which if I follow the process I used to debug the motherboard, would lead me to say its the 3 bank on the AST card, 6 chips from the parity (2nd to last chip) No matter what chip I put in there, I get the same error. Which pretty much halts all further use from the card. I may try scuffing up the connections on the socket to see if that might resolve the issue.

The CentreComs are good transceivers. The one you pointed out will work.
