So far I don't regret a penny of the $600 this thing cost me on Ebay. It came with a ton of stuff & the former owner was apparently a programmer because there were lots of floppies with index cards attached to them with very old rubber bands. I sent all of these to the person who bought my old IIGS. On second thought that was a bad move but there was SO MUCH software at the time I only wanted to keep the games.

I'm not sure, but is this "HEAVY" hardware modification? I didn't do it myself, I just bought it this way.

So you bought a new GS huh? Congrats, looking at the pics it looks like it's nicely loaded. The black box where the power supply should normally be is the Vulcan drive, as far as I know. The card with the ribbon running to it is the SCSI card that allows the GS to talk to the hard drive.

The Transwarp GS card should be in a slot with a cable running down to the CPU, I believe. That cable going to the front faceplate might be what's powering those lights.

It might have been nice to hang onto all the software but the question is do you ever plan to try and program it or are you just going to run stuff that's already been written? By the way, how much RAM did it come with?

All in all not bad.

Bought it this summer actually. Realized I didn't post any pictures other than the ones that were on the auction page. (I'm probably justifying to myself the purchase...)

I have no idea. :D You check that in the control panel, right? I'm thinking maybe the "Memory Expansion Card" is the RAM.

Certainly whoever modded it wanted people to know what he'd installed. I'm not sure if that faceplate is something that was made by Allied Electronics (AE) or else the original owner had made it himself.

There's also a 5.25 disk that has a hand-written note on it saying: "Dee, Sorry it took so long! Just got the new II plus version 6.6 with parms a/o 4-15-86." It's singed "Rick."

Yeah you can check the amount of RAM in the control panel. Depending on whether it's a ROM 1 or ROM 3 you're starting with either 256k or 1Mb. The memory card can expand that anywhere from simply another 256k all the way to 8Mb, depending on which memory card it is.

I'm glad to see you haven't given up on the GS, since it had seemed like ti in your posts about your original GS.

Did you get things working to transfer disk images from your PC/Mac to the GS so you've got even more games to play on it?

OH, you mean trying to get a SCSI card & receiving a SASI one instead? Sorry. The SASI is pretty looking because it's got a ribbon that is many colors. I'm also not allowed to have home delivery any more because my mom threatened to smash the packages.

Did you get things working to transfer disk images from your PC/Mac to the GS so you've got even more games to play on it?

I'm at work now waiting on the cables to be delivered. I have no quarantee they'll be here today but the USPS website it had left Philly so I have no idea how soon it will arrive.

Price may have been just a tad on the high side, but not out of the park. The Vulcan drive alone is worth a couple of Cs. Is there a RAM expansion and a separate RAMdisk, or both on the same card?

Actually the RAM Disk is set up by either the Control Panel, accessed by pressing Cntl-Open Apple-Esc, or by an NDA (New Desk Accessory) in system 6.0.1. The amount of memory that can be configured as a RAM Disk is based on total memory in the GS. So what ever size memory card he has will dictate how large a RAM Disk he can have. So to answer your Question the RAM card and RAM Disk would be one in the same.

I just pulled up my Control Panel setting for the RAM Disk and comparing what mine shows to what yours shows it would appear that you do have a 4MB memory card but with 128k of memory that may be bad.

Here's what my ROM 01 shows with a 4MB memory card installed:

Minimum RAM Disk Size: 0K
Maximum RAM Disk Size: 0K
-Largest Selectable: 4096K-

-RAM Status-
RAM Disk Size: 0K
Total RAM in Use: 84K
Total Free RAM: 4267K

Note the 128K difference in Largest Selectable between your memory card and mine.

Because I spent an entire summer Ebaying & having a lot of mysterious (to her anyway) packages show up at the house. She barely is even computer-literate (she learned a little bit at work when they digitized things like clocking in & out and work orders).

I have a ton of stuff & my current lack of employment isn't helping matters much. Speaking of which... I have to go to a job fair...

my ex-girlfriend didnt understand or like the packages i got in the mail, but i showed the stuff in them to her and explained that i didnt smuggle drugs or anything, after that everything was fine.

well atleast for awhile, she is my EX-girlfriend nowadays afterall.
