I've tried playing pitfall on my Atari 2600 six switch, but neither of the two different cartridges worked. I've taken the cartridges apart and cleaned them, but it didn't help any. I've also taken apart the system and cleaned it. Both looked like new on the inside. Mine was made May 1, 1980, is it just not compatible with that game?

Do other cartridges work with your system? If not, your system is bad; if so, you are unlucky enough to have two bad pitfall cartridges.

Luckily Pitfall was so common that you can get a replacement for a few bucks. Heck, you can probably get several replacements for a few bucks :)

<useless trivia>The (original?) Pitfall commercial on TV had a young boy talking enthusiastically about the gameplay which is a young Jack Black. For whatever reason it's very difficult to find that video but I think I saw it on Leno or something.</useless trivia>

What does your system do when you boot it up with the problematic cartridges? What did you do to clean them (although much more effort and Trixter's right, you can probably find another copy for a buck or so at a local Goodwill or thrift store).
