Hi,

Is this possible to achieve ?

My XT is currently running on 110v via a transformer. I have no switch at the back where it can be switched to 220v. Do you think the hardware for 220v is still there or do I need to replace the PSU if I want 220v instead of 110?

It depends. Some IBM power supplies (I forget which ones) have jumpers on the PSU board itself to change to 220v operation. Have a peek. Make sure you don't have one of the models with a 120vac fan.

Unless the PSU is designed to run from 220V I wouldn't risk it, just run it using the transformer. If there's no switch there's a possibility it may work on 220/240v but unless there's actually a label stating this I doubt it. I do have a few monitors which claim to work from a 100 - 240v supply but I've not actually seen a PC PSU claiming this capability without a switch.

Ok. I'll investigate it the next time I'm going to install a card in it (a few days from now)

It's a hassle to drag it down from it's home on my desktop right now ;-)

I have an American-gifted IBM-PC in the same situation. I run it on a step-down transformer which outputs 110v. My power supply doesn't have a switch, but I don't mind using the transformer. The physical size is not large considering the size of the machine itself.

One fear is that I'll die suddenly, and whoever inherits the collection will one day plug it in simply by connecting it up to the wall socket with a standard power cord.

Then sparks will fly. :)

So just make sure the most obvious power cord laying around is connected to a couple of paddles strapped to your chest. Then, when your time has come, and they come to plug the tantalizingly obvious power cord in...

Lol. I have it on good authority that some want to do this BEFORE my time has come!
