I'm working on a PDP-11/23 plus. In checking out the power supply the foam that helps to direct the air flow is shot. I assume it's fire resistant? Does anyone know of a good replacement? Power supply is a H7861 Rev A ECO 0

Thanks
Todd

Hi - not sure if it directs the air flow or supports the board to some extent, but it certainly goes quite nasty...

I sourced some large adhesive rubber feet to stop the board flexing and support it better - the board was in a bad way as well - it's worth removing the screw terminal block and cleaning up the pins while you have it apart as well.

Not sure what the original foam was, but a Digikey search under "Raw Materials - Foam" returns hundreds of results, many materials in all shapes and sizes, with or without adhesive.

Generally I have found EPDM to be easy to work with and suitable for enclosure sealing etc., and it's pretty cheap.

Normally I find something suitable at my local Lowes / Home Depot. Look for "Frost King" foam in the weatherstripping section. Quite a few materials / shapes to choose from.

I have typically ordered my replacement foam padding and foam air filter media from McMaster-Carr. They are also my go-to mechanical hardware and tool supplier. They're a bit weird about obscuring the manufacturers of their products (except for Starrett and Mitutoyo), but they mostly sell only the top-tier stuff.

I am under the impression that our friends outside USA do not have options quite like McMaster-Carr. That makes me sad.
