If anyone is interested in a Ryzen 7 3700X w/ cooler I have one available that was purchased NIB late last summer. I'm willing to work a deal on this for forum members until the end of this week and then it goes to Ebay. This chip was in my big gamer and performed better than my expectations. Both the CPU and cooler are in excellent condition with the original packaging. Reason for selling is I recently acquired a Ryzen 5900X. PM's only please.

I'm all out of kittens (they've grown). How's about a 'possum? Or raccoon?

A year or so ago the raccoon cost me about 5 large. Also, an opossum found its way into the garage one night and when the little lady came home and stepped out of her car, there it was. She almost had a heart attack and hit some new high notes as she was returning from choir practice. A few frapps with the broom took care of that problem. So, I'll have to pass. (You should snag this chip & fan deal)

Got too many puters. I was contemplating a new, semi expensive server build. Have to decide by Sunday midnight. I'll probably pass though.

Any clue why Asus mining boards are so expensive all of a sudden? Is crypto currency the thing again? Or did Asus just announce eol? I have 1, and a Zotac. They'll be sold off soon.

I'm largely an Intel guy nowadays. Total fanboy. I got bit by the server-workstation bug, and although I also fancy a nice consumer grade box, it's gonna be on the low end. If it happens. I'm too cheap to spring a lot for h/w when there's such respectable server components available reasonably. Maybe when I write my book.

There is a shortage of all of the high end stuff. I just sold a brand new replacement mobo that I had less than year for more than I paid for it, although it was part of package deal. The other end is this CPU. The 5000 Ryzen chips are nearly sold out everywhere except the UK has seen a recent supply. Mining is a big deal now but the retailers are starting to come around for the enthusiasts. Nvidia is doping the 3060 drivers to render then useless for the miners. There are some real good deals on the Intel side of the table these days. I don't have any first hand knowledge or input concerning the servers. Since I've had my Nvidia Shield installed for about 2 years all of my household entertainment runs like clockwork. Most of the household PC's and laptops are networked so I don't see a need for a dedicated document server. I may fool around with a Raz Pi if things get real slow. But, spring is just around the corner and I can hardly wait to get the mitten off of the Camaro.

wot year, wot engine?

2013 2SS Vert auto with a reworked 6.2 L99. COMP cam, Procharger supercharger, all competition bolts, seals, and gaskets, rocker arms, push rods, etc., LS7 lifters. Displacement on Demand feature removed. Heads ported and polished along with Stainless Works headers and exhaust pipes. Fuel system is modified to ZL1 standards which has proved inadequate and will be remedied this spring with a booster system. Latest dyno is 550 RWHP @ 6300 rpm. Expect 50-80 more hp when the fuel delivery is straightened out as it presently starves above 6300 rpm.

So you intend to drive it all around? I need to stay away from Michigan. That thing scares me! :)

It's as gentle as one of your little kitties as long as you keep you foot off the firewall. It's still possible to get 21-23 mpg if you drive nice. Even the wife takes it out once in a while. If I can figure out how to take some low res pictures with my phone I'll post some in the near future.

Well one of the little monsters got my ear bloodied up while I was sleeping. I don't know if he was stretching or got a bug up his bum and decided to attack it.

You did all this work yourself? 6.2 is a big engine, but not that much bigger the the 5.7 LT-1, a "detuned" Corvette engine, that was in the mid 90s Caprice/Roadmaster. That was rated at 27-29mpg on the highway. I had thought all those mods would give better mileage. But what do I know

You make me want to buy a Camaro now. I like the look of some years better then others. The newest ones are ok, but they're getting weirder. I will not go for the baddest. In actuality I was contemplating. 4 cylinder model some months ago. Which makes most people laugh I guess

The L99 is a 6.2 litre (376 cu in) aluminum block V-8 which features variable cam timing or Displacement on Demand which enables the engine to drop from 8 to 4 cylinders when cruising. It was only available with an automatic 6-speed transmission. I had to get the auto as the wife can't handle a manual. Once I had the car the upgrades were done in stages by a local shop that builds racing engines for professionals. When the fuel system is upgraded this spring that will be the end of the engine mods as anything else will require transmission, rear end, and suspension mods. This engine produces a tremendous amount of horsepower under the hood and we hope to obtain 600+ rear wheel hp with the fuel system mods. BTW, the stick version is the LS3 which shares the same block and is stock at about 420 hp with different pistons, valves and cam.

I sure hope you upgraded the bracing underneath as taking a top off a car (for a convertible) removes a good portion and make the car's body twist much more. Eventually
you may find it starts to tear in the middle. I had that happen with a car I had put a supercharger on.

This model is built for competition and has 4-wheel independent suspension. The blower has been on the car for over 5 years and there has been no undo torquing of the undercarriage.

I was told by racing enthusiasts a number of years ago that if you wanted to get the best gas mileage, talk to hot rodders. Or racers or whatever they're called. IOW to eke out maximum power from an engine is equivalent to getting the best gas mileage. That sort of made sense and didn't. Racing by it's nature is not at all about fuel economy, as fast jumps in speed are required to be competitive.

I'm not going to pretend to understand any of this. Maybe they were clueless. I definitely am. All I know is that LT-1 was a beast of an engine. Those cars were plagued by failing distributors (Optispark iirc). They're kind of yesterday's news nowadays. Some people have the desire and patience to keep these old boats running. I have all I can do to keep my 3800 rolling.

I also have been told that stainless exhausts increases mileage. I have no way if anything told me was bull or not.

Well there are people devoted to modifying stuff for better mileage. See hypermiling. And there is some overlap with what racers like to do. Aerodynamics is a big part of it. Compression ratios, air/fuel ratios, and ignition timing can affect both power and efficiency. Gear ratios, lightweight components, forced induction, etc. Plus, in the old days there were some engines that were massively detuned because of EPA regs, leaving a lot of headroom for gains.

The LT-1 was detuned, partially or entirely by using a different cam (and presumably lifters, don't know though). Strangely the corvette had aluminum heads, but the Caprice/Roadmaster/Impala SS had iron heads. My Grand Prix also has iron heads.

Yeah well getting the most out of a gallon of petrol was what those guys were talking about years ago. I suppose though that extra efficiency doesn't necessarily mean extra horsepower.

Back in 2001, a few years before I retired, I bought a GMC Yukon XL with the 6.0 engine and one of the options was a 8.2 behemoth. That truck had a 39.5 fuel tank and only got about 9-10 mpg. A round trip from Michigan to Florida was about $700 in fuel. I loved that truck and my granddaughter is still driving it. I could never figure out why the engine was such a gas hog. One think about that truck was that it 4-wheel drive and if you put the the drive case in low and then selected 1st gear on the automatic it was then geared so low that it would climb a telephone pole.
