Safely Posting Disks

Is there a safe way of posting magnetic media so that they dont become damaged by stray magnetism during transit? or do we have to hope for the best?
 
I haven't heard of a disk getting messed up in a while.

It actually takes a lot more magnetism than people think to destroy a disk.
It'll be fine as long as it dont get squished.
 
I've never really tried...

I did put the phone down on a pile of 3.5" disks once, and lost all my data, but that was the one time...I was just wondering itf they got subjected to magnetism at all in the process of postage as well,

There's more risk of physical damage than electro-magnetic damage, but I have had disks mailed to me wrapped in tin foil. I am unsure of the theory why one would do that exactly.
 
Thinking about the tinfoil thing, maybe it's to keep the x-rays out when they get scanned. I heard that but i'm not sure either. I know tinfoil is used in som applications as a magnetic shield, but it's always been grounded, like in a c64.

I believe the idea is that the conductor enclosed medium won't be affected by inadvertent grounding or static electricity. I believe there is a bunch of stuff on this on the I-net. Before reading it, I was horrified by the idea of safeguarding magnetic data with conducting material.
