I am seeking info on DEC line printers.

I've figured out that this is the LG-series; the LA-series were character printers (regular dot-matrix printers), and the LN series were page printers (laser printers).

They made a bunch of models...LG01, LG05 and LG05+, LG10, on and on.

I'm looking for company documentation, sales brochures, anything which will explain the whole line - what years they were introduced and discontinued, etc.

All I can find with Google are the manuals for a few models, and that doesn't tell me what I'm looking for.

I've got a a MicroVAX 3600, and I'm trying to figure out which model of line printer would be historically accurate (in other words, which models of line printer were offered mid-1987 to mid-1989, when the MicroVAX 3600 was in production before it was replaced by the 3900). In other words, what would DEC have been offering for sale with this computer back in the late 1980s?

Thanks!

I am not sure the LG10 etc were DEC printers...

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10330_na/10330_na.PDF

which is a Compaq brochure from 2000.

Looking at the MicroVAX II brochure that only talks about LA120. I am pretty sure that a MicroVAX would not normally have a line printer. They were just too expensive, normally on a small VAX you would have an LA120.....

I think where worked we generally used a third part line printer on out Vaxen......

Say a DataProducts.....

Just to prove me wrong Wikipedia has a MicroVAX with a line printer...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroVAX

and I see Genicom has an LG05 ....

http://office.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/genicom/lg05_500_lpm.html

and the VAX describes the LA and LP printers as line printers....

(page 1-14)

Looking here :-

and scrolling to the bottom the MicroVAX appears to have an LA120 attached which I would expect to be the normal config....
.. but it says it emulate an lpv11 the docs for which are here and these still refer to the LN05...

Tim Shoppa's quote here

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/comp.sys.dec/Tk0SWIie3GE/B8A-HA0PutoJ

suggests that DEC did re-badge printer.... Tim is still around so if you can track him down he might have some info (try the CCTALK list)

Any way I think any printer would be "appropriate"...

Okay, so it looks like the LG05 - which I've seen branded both as DEC and as Compaq, from before and after the acquisition - would be "historically accurate" to the 1987-1989 period?

One more question - what's the difference between he LG05 and the LG05+ (plus) model?
