Looking for a 486 motherboard that can host a rather large amount of ram for its time.

64 MB RAM capacity at minimum. I've seen some that can have 128 or even 256 MB of RAM fitted, but they seem very uncommon

both PCI and VLB buses are acceptable, I have the necessary cards for either

I'm ok with just about any price but $250 or under would be nice

thanks

You'll also have to upgrade the cache to 512K to cache 64MB, assuming it's a board designed to rob a bit of the tag to use as the write-back clean/dirty bit.

At that budget you should have no issue keeping an eye on eBay if you don't find one here. I would get something SiS 471 based for VLB or UM8881/UM8886BF for PCI. I think some swear by the SiS 496 for PCI as well.

Thanks for the info, I do have some cache chips laying around so I should be good there.

I have been keeping an eye on eBay but the ones I can find that meet my needs seem to always have damaged memory slots which is a bummer

I see. There have been several batches show up from Eastern Europe every few months or so, so if you don't find anything before you might luck out then.

I'd also guess that if you're looking for something with 3.3V support/write-back L1 support, it's more likely to support 64MB than not.
