Sony and Seagate teaming up for hard disk production?

I ran across this news item in my morning email:

Not a lot of detail here--I assume that we're not talking about spinning rust-type drives. What are they?

Sony would be building lasers for HAMR rotating rust drives. https://blog.seagate.com/craftsman-ship/hamr-next-leap-forward-now/ includes the snippet reproduced:

A small laser diode attached to each recording head heats a tiny spot on the disk, which enables the recording head to flip the magnetic polarity of each very stable bit, enabling data to be written.

Thanks, that makes more sense than the press squib. I guess to be in the news today, you have to mention AI or Taylor Swift....
