Sony Magic Link PIC-1000, any fans?

Do you know what it is?
Do you have one?

Yeah, but unless collecting it, you don't want that one.
Search fleaBay for a DataRover 840, preferable an 840F

Early PDA, general magic made it, GUI based on simple icons, ie
Desk, phone, office, hallway, shelves for docs, etc...

Rather cool for it's time. The 840F can even be made to talk to a Lucent WaveLAN PCMCIA WiFi card (bronze or gold, i think) and will connect to the internet, assuming you use either a router with arp proxy, or use a cisco with arp proxy enabled, and a WAP on it. SSID for the datarover should be the alphabetically first one.

Guess a longer answer than you expected?

lemme know what questions you have, and I'll try to answer them.

I owe ya one anyways! :)

I've actually got one. And a Motorola Envoy too.
Was just curious to see if anyone else was into them.

I have a couple DataRover 840's, and I think a PIC somewhere in the garage.
They're neat to pull out and play with once in a while.

The DR840, you can even get on the Internet, if you have the right toys (Lucent WaveLAN Gold, and a router that does proxy arp)

Dude, please. We're not talking exacting history here - just generic consumer availability.

As I said, early PDA

"Dude, please," yourself. You soooooo do not know what you're talking about.

You want to talk "generic consumer availability" instead of "exacting history"...? Fine. Then say so in the first place -- don't call something "early" when it came out a dozen years AFTER the technology hit the market. It's not the technology's fault that you are ignorant of its existence. And if you're going to qualify it, then try the early-1980s "Handheld Computer" craze or the 1984 Psion Organiser.

Gawd, I have SUCH a low tolerance level for this know-it-all...

Evan - crawl back in your hole.
As if it ain't bad enough you're pissing people off on the CClists, now you're doing it here too?

Geez - some people can't get a hint.

Your social engineering skills need MUCH work.... DUDE

When I want your opinion on one of my posts, I'll tug your leash.
Until then, stay out of my posts.

I'm not interested in coddling people who want reassurance of dearly held myths and falsehoods.

As for cctalk, the only thing I'm sorry about is all the pussies who can't take a joke.

How 'bout we just agree to disagree? Since we all can't even reach a consensus on the definition of 'vintage,' even though this is the Vintage Computer Forum, terms such as 'early' are bound to be just as undefinable. Everyone has their own time-line, and none is necessarily more valid than another. And don't even get me started on the definition of 'PDA', that's a whole 'nother thread...

Wow, I wasn't aware a hair required splitting here.
Geez, I'm so happy I started this thread. :p
How about I just close it.
