A local computer store has a stash of to be recycled PC stuff in the back, and sticking out from under it was this Vic 20. He gave it to me for free which was very cool of him, I was prepared to give him $10 untested and having been out in the rain.

Hey, even the case is cool and it's in great shape, too, and if the mainboard was shot then I could use it for a case mod.

Also, he said I could take a thing at any given time, just not too much (as he's not the boss and I guess they have a deal with somebody, but I saw a couple of small rack-mountable cases I want in there even if the innards are shot) Anyway.

It has a 6522, not a 6502 which I am used to seeing. Also it has a black and white wire connecting two points on the mainboard. Pics when I get better light, they'd just get all fuzzy right now (middle of the night).

It actually has dual 6522's in there. Does anyone have any information on what could have been done in the past?

Pics soon.

Actually it should have one 6502, two 6522, one 6560, a few ROMs and memory chips. All that is standard:

6502 = CPU
6522 = VIA, for handling I/O lines like joystick, floppy drive, userport, keyboard, tape recorder etc
6560 = VIC, dedicated graphics and sound chip

The wire also is standard, although I'm not sure what it does. Probably a last minute patch of some kind.
