Upgrading an SE floppy to SuperDrive

I recently obtained an old Mac SE (not SE/30) with an 800K floppy drive (and a SCSI hard drive in the upper bay). It also came with the SuperDrive out of a Mac II-series, I think it was a IIci or similar. I tried to install the SuperDrive into the SE in place of the 800K drive, but the Mac still thinks it has an 800K drive and the disk slot in the case only lines up with the one in the drive when the drive is in the "disk inserted" position. Can anyone offer advice?

You need to change the floppy controller chip to be able to use superdrives. I have a SE FDHD model (2 superdrives) and the only difference is the floppy chip is swapped for a newer one and it has superdrives installed.

Actually, new ROM's also need to be swapped in, not only the Floppy controller.

In short,the ROM's need to be upgraded, as well as the Floppy Controller, to use the Superdrive in an HD capacity. The best way to do this would be to Upgrade the motherboard or ROM's/Controller (though finding a motherboard would be a little easier than obtaining the bare chips)
