Greetings,

I am looking to upgrade the built-in VGA support on my IBM PS/2 Model 70 (8570-161), and I need help in finding out what options are available. I understand that there is a difference between SVGA and XGA, but I don't know which adapters will work in this machine. I've also heard of people using the 8514/A adapter as well.

Can anyone provide some insight into the best approach, both from a cost and reliability standpoint? I don't need high-end graphics by any means... I'm just looking to increase my screen resolution beyond standard VGA and provide for more color choices.

If anyone has ideas on a specific adapter to use, I'd appreciate a web link or similar contact information that I can use to make a purchase.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The bottom line is that you need a Microchannel Architecture(MCA) video adapter. The 8514 I believe could only use 2megs memory. Your best bet would be to ask on the excellent and busy PS/2 usenet group. I have about 15 PS/2s and have 2 IBM 8514s and a couple of ATI "Mach" s installed on a few. The IBM 8570 is one of my favorite MCA machines.
